Since I have run out of commissions, and don't have any new ones lined up, I've been redoing my own dolls. That's something I need to periodically do anyway, heh.
This past week I had my Soom Beyla/Glot/Eliv with a Peapod Doll mermaid tail, and April Story Betty along with her hands on my work desk to be repainted.
Without further ado, onto some pictures!
So here we have my April Story Betty as well as her hands. Her hands had gotten horribly chipped since the last time I painted them. The blue french tip was a last minute decision, but I'm glad I did! Her face acquired two more piercings since last time (yes, I do applied piercings and can even imbed them in the resin if so requested), and her eyebrows are lighter to match her new wig!
A quick comparison of her last and current face up. Her scar is less red this time, but still there. It simply looks more healed than previously.
If you'd like to see a picture of her with her wig, I have one in the Owner Gallery!
Next up is my Soom Beyla OE/human head in cream white. She's a little siren girl, so scales were a must! She was quite the restoration process. I'm at least her 3rd owner, and for some parts I'm at least the 4th.
Her body is a Soom Glot torso with Soom Eliv arms and ears, and a Peapod Doll mermaid tail that I later uncovered to be a sakura pink color AND one of 2 with a fade from dark butt to lighter fin in this color! What a special little girl!
I scored her on the DoA MP for a good price. She was double painted (as in she was painted once, and then painted over again without removing the previous paint job), and boy was that annoying to remove.
First things first, I took her apart (some of her joints were glued together from acrylic paint...) and threw her to soak in some 99.9% isopropyl alcohol. I started with the little bowl to clean her torso of the caked on paint and the glitter.
After much scrubbing I got at least her torso clean. Her hands were still with a lot of paint on them, so I left them to soak longer.
I quickly realized she'd need to soak fully in alcohol for at least 24 hours to remove the remaining paint.
So I did that. I poured 500ml of alcohol into some tupperware and put all her painted tail pieces in there.
So here my suspicion of her fin being pink was confirmed! Under the hot pink and white paint was a layer of purple and gold. The purple and gold paint sadly stained her a little in places, but that's nothing I can't hide with the new blush job!
After 1.5 days of soaking in 99.9% isopropyl alcohol, she was finally as clean as I was going to be able to get her. I replaced all the elastic in her and restrung her. She can do some cute things with her tail! Her face up is above obviously, but I haven't documented her body blush yet.
So here she is all painted and refreshed! I slathered her in Aztec Gold PearlEx shimmer pigment after blushing her with reds. Please excuse the cruddy cell phone picture, my camera on my phone is getting dated...
The clothing is just spare stuff I had laying around, but the wig is hers and the eyes I specially made for her too. I wanted her to shimmer between gold and red as her parents are a Siren and a Fire Elemental. I think she suits them both!
I'm so glad I got her after all as I'd been eyeing her on the MP for a few weeks already, trying to talk myself out of her. But I've wanted a YoSD mermaid for years now and was super sad when Peapod Doll closed... Either way, all's good!
That's all from me for now, until next time!
I just got home from celebrating easter with my wife and my family, and it was quite lovely. We created a giant photo collage to commemorate my late step grandma who just passed away this week. The funeral is on Wednesday, so I took that day off from all work.
In happier news, I did get around to painting my giant mermaid girl from Dollzone. She's a hybrid with a Minas head on a Sawarieda body. I painted her yesterday in the morning, but didn't get around to documenting her until today.
She turned out quite pretty in my opinion, though I'm not entirely sold on the teeth on this sculpt. I normally dislike my dolls having teeth, but this was the only head I liked from DZ when I ordered the Sawarieda within a week of her release. I'm still sad that Dollzone discontinued all of their old dolls...
Anyway, I'll eventually blush her body too, but that's going to be quite the under taking! I'm going to buy alternative sealant like Purity Seal or Army Painter Matte Varnish to do it with so I can save my MSC for face ups.
Here's a picture of her currently taken last night with my cell phone. She's a massive doll and doesn't even fit on my work desk. I dread taking her apart for blushing! Her name is Sam, and she's my siren character. I'm tempted down the line when I eventually repaint her to mod her little buck teeth to pointed and give her long fin like ears!
Either way, happy easter!
Yesterday I decided to finally blush Winter's hooves. It was a bit of a challenge because they are so stained.
When I bought them second hand I didn't know they would be so stained because they were covered in about two layers of acrylic paint. I first scrubbed off the first layer, and then I soaked the hooves in rubbing alcohol for 24 hours. That got the rest of the paint off, but they were still rather stained because of how porous the resin is due to the hand cast nature of them.
Either way, I decided to challenge myself with the fantasy blush of them, at least a little bit. I originally wanted the hooves darker than the fur, but I got a bit impatient so I simply painted cracks on them. I experimented with my pastels a bit and managed to even splatter them like acrylic paint. Now once I learn how to paint on eyelashes and eyebrow hairs without the watercolor pencils I feel like I'll level up!
And here she is before and after. It's amazing what a difference a face up and wig makes. That is literally the same doll, there you can also see her original hoof blush. It looked nice from a distance, but not so much up close.
Well, looks like my plate is pretty empty again. All I have now to work on is personal projects that I always somehow put off. Two face ups I need to redo on my dolls, but I need the process documented for my new face up book.
Anyway, if you have a head laying around in need of a new face, don't hesitate to message me! I'll be raising my prices by $5 in October since it's been a good 6 months since my last price raise. So if you want a head painted at my current prices, now is the time!
In other news, my floating DZ Miss Kitty head finally got her new DC kid body.
Seeing her put together like this makes it hard to believe she was ever a YoSD. I do have to do some modding on her neck hole so that her head will sit better. DC bodies are interesting to dress because her torso fits into YoSD clothes while her hips are better suited
When I came home from work on Tuesday, I found a crazy hybrid on the doll dresser. My partner and a friend had decided to take the body from one doll, who was getting a new one anyway, and stick the head of another doll on it that I was intending on selling.
The end result is this:
This hybrid is made of a Dollzone Miss Kitty body with the head from a Dollzone Chinese Dragon Girl and her feet as hands. The wings were made by me and are in fact resin. I love this hybrid so much that I'm going to do a small mod to her butt so I can put her tail on! The magnet fell out of her butt so what I want to do is put a small hook screw into the hole to attach the tail elastic on to.
So this is one of my craziest looking hybrids right now. I have a lot of hybrids (6) at this point. The only sucky thing is, that I have this thing about having an even number of dolls. Now I have 11 again. I didn't want any more dolls, but unfortunately I found one to be a new character of mine. So I might be ordering a Souldoll Juana in the near future.
Also, is it bad that I want to wipe her cute little face up and do my own just so that all my dolls have one of my face ups?
