First up is my first proper airbrush project, the Sprouting Dragon Zilu resin wig in white. It is quite big and heavy, but I think the gradients turned out nice. The sealant (Army Painter Anti-Shine Matte-Varnish) turned a little glossy, but it's holding otherwise well. I will still stick with MSC overall. 

Here's some pictures of the wig on the intended doll! She belongs to a good friend of mine and all that's left is to paint the body, hands, and feet. So that should be soon!

Now I will show off the Doll Chateau Larry I repainted for my mom. I even made the little fella some new eyes as the old glass ones that had come with him had two vastly different pupil sizes and it bothered me. 
Now I gifted my mom this guy in 2017, and painted his faceup, shell and eye-stalks back then. I had ordered a wig for him, but it was too big and the head is so oddly shaped wigs were impossible to find. Which is why I opted to paint on the wig this time, and both my mom and I think it looks cute! I blushed the body this time as well, and tightened his body stringing as much as I could without needing to take him apart. 

Since I had painted him before, I do have a before and after of him, pictured above. I'm not sure why I didn't give him any rosy blushing last time, and only blue blushing, but he looked rather flat. But you know what this looks like?
Growth. 
9 years of practice really do make a difference!

First up is the Luts TinyDelf Bell in grey skin, modeled after the Little Sister character in the Bioshock games. She got both a faceup and body blush in a grungy style and some delicate veining on the face. No eyebrows or eye detailing as the character model doesn't have them either in the first game. The client was kind enough to send my a picture of her dressed and wigged, so please head on over to the Owner Pic gallery after reading here to take a peek!

Next up are my Fairyland LTF Juri 2013 faceplates in natural skin. The dreaming and sleeping faces are modded to look like that, as the face was only ever available during an event in 2013 and had only the open eyed expression. Me loving Littlefees because of the option to change between different expressions easily, I naturally had to acquire more of them to give her more expressions.

Here's a quick image of all three faces side by side, I literally painted her assembly line style to keep the details as unified as possible. I also have some pictures in the Owner Pic gallery of her posted all dressed and everything. I love how she looks like she's falling asleep, maybe I should do a little stop-motion animation of her faces...

It's no secret that I've painted my Littlefee Juri 2013 before, and especially how unhappy I was with her old faceups from 2024. I had just switched from watercolor paints to acrylics for painted details, and I hadn't gotten the hang of thinning my paints properly yet. So my line-work really suffered. But I am really happy with how she turned out this time. She just... looks perfect!
My only sadness is that my dslr camera never pics up the shine or shimmer properly, so I made a video showcasing that:

Just look how cute she is, and shiny! I love the mica pigment infused watercolors from Coliro to do fancy shimmery details, because they keep their shine even through several layers of MSC.  In the video you can also see her new eyes that I made. The photos still feature her old acrylic eyes, I've only been wanting to make her resin eyes for over a year. But hey, better late than never!

Now for the last faceup of May is on my newly arrived secondhand Loongsoul Chloe in white skin. She's a 10 year old gal, and a doll I had written off as "unattainable" because back when she was available I couldn't afford or justify her, and I hadn't ever seen her available secondhand, up until late last year. I finally purchased her in April as a birthday gift to myself.
She did arrive with her default faceup, which took a lot of scrubbing to remove. Only after removing it did I see she actually has sculpted teeth! Loongsoul had surprisingly painted over them, which I'm not sure why, but I feel she looks super cute with them defined!

Again a little video to showcase this sparkly faceup too. The gold accents are also done with Coliro Pearlcolors, and she's slathered in mica and multi-chrome pigments. Her colors are matched to a wig I have on order, the lavender one she's wearing now is just so she isn't bald...
I also made a bunch of eyes this month! I actually made 4 sets of eyes for my Loongsoul Chloe, and 2 sets for my LittleFee Juri 2013.

The first sets of eyes are 16mm and were different experiments to try and get the colors right for my Loongsoul Chloe. The purple cat eyes are 14mm and I made them for my Fairyland LTF Juri 2013. The last 4 eyes are for my wife's Flower&Junior Mizi.W, but I still need to put them in her. She only needs 3 of them, which is good because one failed with the pupil bleeding out.

First up is my recently acquired Lost Chronicles Naris in normal skin. He's a head by a small German bjd sculptor who has sadly had to step back from doll making. I couldn't join his one and only preorder in 2021 due to finances, and when I tried to get him in stock later things kept happening, preventing me from getting him. 
But I am glad I own him now, he has some of the most fabulous elf ears I've seen on a doll. Naturally I had to cover them in earrings! 
I also took a video of him to show off the shine of the fantasy work on him:

I once again used Coliro Pearlcolors (color: Green Pearl) for the fantastical elements and I love how they almost disappear in certain lighting/angles. 

Next up we have a 3D Printed BellaBugs Acacia in a limited tan color, but color matched to Fairyland tan skin. I'm finally free to use my airbrush, but I admit I am still hesitant to because I am lazy about cleaning my airbrush gun thoroughly. But I do want to learn and use it for fantasy parts applications.
At least I did find a really good mix of paints to get close to Fairyland tan, which I then applied in thin layers with a makeup sponge. It didn't take too much more to push it to near perfect with pastel blushing. 

Just so you can get a better idea of the steps, here are the before, matched, and painted pictures compared to the resin sample I was sent. I'm excited to see what the client thinks of the faceup in person. They love it in pictures, but a frequent comment I get is "it looks even better in hand!". Making other people happy with my art is such a rewarding thing for me. I consider them like mini collaborations with other collectors, helping them bring their dolls and characters to life!

And then last, but certainly not least, we have my Resinsoul Ai in normal skin, though back when I got her in 2011 her color was called "fleshtone". I went a lot more bold on her blushing this time, and I tried something new with the eyebrow detailing. I think she turned out nice for what it's worth! 
And of course, I shouldn't gloss over the fact that this is my 700th completed faceup to date! Like wow, It only took me a little under 15 years to get here, and that's honestly kind of insane! I have an extreme output, though it has decreased considerably in the last 5 years or so. It's okay though, I am happy with my body of work and am looking forward to expanding it. 

Naturally, we need to compare my 600th to my 700th faceup. The before one was from when I had just made the switch from watercolor to acrylic paints in 2023. I hadn't really learned yet how to properly thin my paints yet, but I have figured it out now. I still struggle a bit with paler and white eye-detailing on pale sculpts, but I will get it to function 95% of the time!
Let's go down memory lane with all the faceups my Resinsoul Ai has had:

I was, and still am, really proud of my first faceup. I did receive some help on the eyebrows and eyelashes from a good friend of mine, but the work is 96% mine otherwise. My 100th faceup I utterly hated, but I was committed to this new tradition and refused to redo her until 99 more faceups had been completed.
In that time she got a few body, new legs, eventually a new outfit and eyes, then a new wig and new horns. She was my first resin BJD that I got in stock from The Junky Spot back in June 2011, after joining the hobby just a month prior. I fell head over heels in love with resin dolls at that point and I've greatly expanded my collection over the years. But one things for certain, this gal is here to stay.

First up are the two Sugary Girls 1/8 MJD Blind box doll heads in normal skin, painted to match. The eye-hole head had kind of strange eye chips available so I hand painted them as I couldn't get regular doll eyes to fit proper without being knocked out of alignment upon shutting the head on the neck piece.
The eyeless head I painted into a sleeping head with the same colors as the open eyed one to match them.

I think they match really well! I'm no expert on anime faceups, but I am starting to enjoy painting them more and more. I have a ton more of those heads, so I can continue to practice on them, even if they are really really small. 

Here's some pictures of the faces with their intended wig. You can see here how small the faces actually are. I will be airbrushing the wig once the cats are out of my house as it's impossible to work with them hovering around, and I don't want to gunk up their lungs with acrylic paint particles. 

Next up we got the Dream Valley Olivia in white skin, who I gave a bit of a hybrid anime with semi-realism faceup, as the doll is modeled after a friend's v-tuber model. I also made the eyes which I am really proud of! Only my third attempt at sparkle eyes and they shimmer and shine so nicely. She's also sparkly all along her eyelids, but it's hard to see. I hope the video shows it a bit:

See what I mean? Just look how nice and sparkly the eyes are! I only have to blush her body and fantasy parts now, which I'll be doing the next few weeks, along with the Dream Valley Unica that belongs to the same friend. I definitely will be needing the airbrush for him as he's a full body airbrush job, but again I digress...

I just really wanted to show off my 3 attempts at sparkly eyes so far! The first pair on screen (the orange pair) were the first from January of this year, then the second (pink) pair is from February, and the last blue pair was made in March. I dislike the first pair, as I only had flat back gems, and those just go flat in resin. The other two pairs I had specially ordered pointed back glass gems in various sizes and colors. Those should last me a good while! 
I also bought some anime eye molds, and got a ton of plaster eye bases secondhand, so I can make more eyes with them. I just can't while my mom's cats are crawling all over my work room. They even broke one of my doll heads (dug him out of my desk and flung him on the floor, breaking one of his ear tips off). They are lucky it was one of my own heads and I could repair him, but I was still pissed at them for it. Now I refuse to keep anything out on my desk until they are gone.

First up is a Soom Thera in bronze skin from the 2014-15 free choice event. She’s actually really faded and has a greenish hue from extended sun exposure under this new Faceup. I managed to restore her coloring with strategic pastel blushing before doing her Faceup. I last painted her in 2015 not long after she arrived.

Gotta include a before and after of her Faceups of course, it’s always so much fun for me to see how much I’ve grown as an artist over the years. She’d been one of the oldest faceups in our collection still, so she was definitely due for a refresher.

Next up is the mentioned Luts HoneyDelf Madeleine in real skin brown, also repainted for my wife. She’s actually on a Luts HoneyDelf centaur body, and she’s now wearing a pair of eyes I’d made last year. They actually work really well for her.

Naturally I had to do another before and after since she’s a repaint too. Her old Faceup was from 2016, and was very faded along with her coloring. Under her new Faceup she is rather green…

Following that we have a Spouting Dragon Zilu #3, with modded on eyelashes to look more like Zilu #1, in Mia white skin. she fought me bitterly on her freckles, as I had to redo them at least 2 times before I was happy with them. 
​She belongs to a dear friend and is her first and only resin BJD (she’s got a couple of blind box ones). The eyes are made by me to her specifications. I do love how the subtle gold shimmer turned out in them.

And last, but certainly not least, is my wife’s Soom LittleGem Special Order Light Centaur open eyed unicorn Shale in cream white from 2014. Now she’d had my oldest Faceup in our collections back from 2014, so it really was high time for a redo. 

Here’s her before and after! This comparison really shows my improvement over the last decade plus I feel! I used the same method for adding her freckles, but it looks a lot more natural this time around. Probably because I’ve learned a lot since I’ve started Faceupping in 2011, and by brush since 2013. Her blushing is more lively too!

First up is the Planetdoll Mini Riz in what I persume to be mellowed normal skin. She's an old gal on a single jointed body. The client asked for all over freckles, a body blusing, mani- and pedicure, and a faceup to match her slate grey mohair wig. Working on the tiny dolls (she's barely YoSD height) is always a challenge to make the details hold up even through the zooming in. 

Next up is my Magic Mirror Fafnir in raspberry skin, which I assumed was more red from the artist's pictures online, but no, she is bright pink, like bubblegum, so I have tentatively named her Bubbles because of it. I knew I needed to give her a fantasy faceup with lots of shimmer. Of course once can't truly appreciate the shimmer in photos, so I also took a video:

Isn't she lovely? Blushing her was a challenge as I didn't want her to be just pink, so I added purples and deep reds to help bring her to life more. I am not completely satisfied with the eyebrows, but for now they are staying until they bother me enough for me to redo her. The jewelry detailing on her cheeks is painted with Coliro Pearlcolors, specifically "Fairy", which was giving me some trouble (kept flaking off before I could seal), but it's luckily staying in place now.

I got her in stock directly from the artist, and she was a convention stock piece, so she came with a faceup already. I thought it was done lovely, but once again I bond the best with my dolls by painting them myself. She's wearing a cute dress made by a good friend of mine, whom I commissioned for another dress for Bubbles. I can't wait to get it (it's super cute!!), so I'm waiting to upload a new owner picture of her. 

As mentioned, I've been working on and refining my eye making skills. My latest eye experiments are below:

The heart pupil eyes I think turned out great, but the gem eyes I am less happy with. I found that using flatback gems for them just... flattens the gems, so I ordered some pointed back gem mixes off Etsy and they should arrive in the next couple of weeks. I'm excited to give them another try then! Also I ordered anime eye molds on aliexpress, because I got tired of trying to make my own completely from scratch.
I've made several eyes by now, and am up for offering them as an add on to my facep commissions. Only €5 per pair of eyes if you order a faceup as well! The price is low because I'm still learning, but I am satisfied with my progress so far. 

Just look at this shimmer on the heart eyes! Both eye sets in the video are 14mm eyes. The heart ones I put into my Impldoll Sini, as she's heart and love themed anyway. And honestly... she's rocking them!

I need to take some new DSLR pics of her with these eyes, my phone just struggles capturing her beauty fully. 
I'm hoping to do more faceups this month than the last two, which should be doable as I have decided to repaint several of my wife's dolls that need a refresher. I've already got a start on two of her dolls, as they are a mother-daughter pair, I felt it appropriate to paint them together.

So here's the only faceup I completed in December of 2025, which is also my 688th Faceup I've completed. I really love how dark Impldoll's dark tan is, and it paints nicely too. I decided to go really bold with her lips, and ended up carrying the colors over into the hears on her cheeks. I didn't plan for her to be so heart filled, but now she reminds me of Valentine's Day candy... at least she's pretty!
I did 40 faceups and a plethora of body and fantasy parts in 2025, which is not too bad honestly. It's not my output from years ago, but back then I rarely did bodies or fantasy parts. Over all I am happy with my growth as a faceup artist the last year.

First up is the commission Doll Leaves Camilla in white skin who is supposed to be a cute little vampire child. I had a lot of fun painting her, I'm especially proud of her painted eyelashes, they are so nice and wispy, but not too light!

Here she is with her wig! Matching her eyebrows to her wig was a bit of a challenge (it's a warm pink and I have mostly cool pink paints), but I succeeded. See what I mean? She's just such a cutie patootie and I can't wait to hand her back to my friend this next week and see their reaction in person! 

Then next up are the two Magic Mirror Branwen faceplates (fairy and human) in quartz skin. I ordered her back in March directly from the artist at Epic Doll Fair, and she finally arrived at the end of October, much to my excitement. She did sadly sustain an injury in shipping, breaking off a finger. Luckily I was able to fix it for the time being and the artist will replace the hand as soon as she gets a replacement in.

Here are the two faceplates compared, human on the left and fairy on the right. The biggest differences between the two, beside the pointed ears, are the eye shape and the lip sculpting. The human faceplate has more open eyes and sculpted lip lines, while the fairy faceplate has romantic eyes and smooth lips. I uploaded an owner pic of her in the owner gallery already!
In the end I did paint the faceplates to match, so I could freely swap between the faces for alternate expressions. Both sets of eyes are from Ashuradark, and they are beautiful, but I do want to try my own hand at making them eyes. I'll do so towards the end of December because then I have about 2 weeks off, which I am excited for. I've been going full throttle since October, and my body is telling me to slow down, and despite my protests, it decided to force me to rest by giving me bronchitis this past week. Oh well, at least I am resting (it's just a poor week for it because of all sorts of important things in preparation for exams next week...).

First up today is my Dollzone Little Snow in 1/6 scale in purple resin. I did have to blush the head more purple as her head is really faded to a pale purple-grey. Now she matches her body again, and her wig as well! I love the subtle purple to gold shimmer of the filigree designs on her cheeks. 

Of course here's the comparison of her previous to current faceup. The old faceup I did before I had picked a wig for her, and it ended up kinda messy and dark. This time she's softer and brighter, and I love how pink her ear tips turned out. A definite improvement in my eyes. I already posted a pic of her in the owner gallery.

Next up I wanted to share another repaint, this time of my wife's Dollzone Big Dipper in white skin. Yes, he is a cabbage, and his eyes are like that on purpose. He turned out way greener than last time, but it's okay, he looks more cabbage-like like this. I do enjoy the purple and reddish accents I gave him. 

I also finally blushed his body after only like... 10 years? I know, it's a long time for his body to be blank, but I dislike handling him due to how slippery his joints are and he's wobbly on the legs. He's adorable, but a nightmare to pose. 

Following Cabbage, is a another plant fella, a Dream Valley Tea event doll in white skin. This guy, hoo-boy was he a nightmare to reassemble... I took his head apart and off so I could paint that easier, and then I couldn't get him back into once piece without fully taking him apart and his blushing got completely scratched. I patched the worst spots as well as possible, and he's cute but I despise him for his antics.

And last, but certainly not least, I got to paint matching Fairyland MNF Celine heads (one OE the other SP) in natural skin, but they are colormatched to Bimong normal. Luckily it was a minute difference and only took two pastel layers to match up.
I will never not be challenged by putting eyelashes on sleeping heads. I usually end up cutting the lashes into sections to make them easier to glue. This time was no different. But both me and the client are happy with the outcome of these two faceups. They already sent me owner pictures and I uploaded them in the owner gallery as well. 

Just look how pretty the two heads are together! It's always a fun task to match the faceups on different expression heads for the same character/doll. Doing the nude lip took a bit of experimenting, but her lips look extra plump and juicy, so mission is accomplished! I worked on the heads at the same time so it would be easier to keep the work consistent. 

That's it for aesthetic work I did and completed in September 2025. I wanted to get this blog post done today, as tomorrow is my 10th wedding anniversary and I want to spent that day with my wife. Maybe we'll take doll pics, or just eat cake together. Either is fine by me, as long as it is time spent with my wife!

First up I want to share the Metis Doll Lhasa in ivory skin, whom I painted on commission. She got a nice and dramatic faceup, with ombre lips because let's face it, those gorgeous lips were begging to be accentuated with bold colors! The head is actually surprisingly small, which isn't really that surprising with her being a "fashion" type bjd. Definitely a beauty!

The client also asked me to blush her chest piece, and to give an illusion of cleavage with blushing, along with a mani- and pedicure. The nails, on both hands and feet, have a delicate dark red shimmer that can only be seen in certain angles. Definitely an interesting challenge but a fun one. 

Next up we have a Doll Family-A GouGou in normal pink skin. This little gal was a birthday gift from me to my mother, who was very patient with her arrival since it took a good 5-6 months for her to ship. No matter, my mom loves how she turned out and has her inside a cabinet with glass doors.
I'm always taken aback by how pale the normal pink is by DFA, like it looks white skin if you don't know any better. Makes it challenging to blush somewhat naturally, but it's fine, she turned out lovely.

Following that we got a return visitor, a Soom ID Phonolus Romantic Vampire in originally grey skin, but color matched to Granado syringa skin. He's got an eye opening and an elf ear mod. 
Last he was here he only got the elf ear mod, which I color matched and blushed to match the rest of the head and faceup. Then his new body arrived from Granado, and the colors weren't even remotely close (the first image shows the OG color of the headcap to the sample color of the neck piece), so the client asked if I can do color matches along with faceups. I reassured them that I definitely could and he came back for a spa visit. It took a few tries to get the color right, but he's looking good. There's an owner pic in the Owner Pictures gallery if you'd like to see how he is styled now. Definitely handsome! 

Then here we got the Magic Mirror Orla in quartz skin for the same client as the Metis Doll Lhasa. They asked me to embellish the default faceup with shimmer, eyelashes, and provided earrings to glue on. Along with that, they requested that I redo the blushing on the hands, feet, and the upper chest piece with mauve nails, plus more shimmer along those parts. I also restrung, sueded, and wired her too. Now she's a rock solid poser and no longer a slippery noodle. 

Just look how pretty she is! I tried to match the remaining existing body blushing, and I think I did a decent job. It's been a joy to see her on instagram being shared!

After that, we got my sweet Doll Chateau Snow Nymph in normal pink skin. She's been with me 10 years as of September 4th, and was an early wedding gift from my wife. I decided to repaint her because she got a new wig which I commissioned by a local artist. Honestly, it's my prettiest wig and is so well made, I'm blown away by it! I know, I just repainted Melody last year, but with the new wig the red eyebrows and lashes just didn't work.

Here's her quick before and after comparison. She'd been a redhead for 10 years, but her character has grown since I first created her, and I wanted her to have her adult/awakened hair color for a wig. I will spare you guys the details, heh. It's still a bit odd seeing her without the red hair, but it's growing on me more and more despite my aversion to change. 

And last, but certainly not least, we got a Volks Dollfie Dream DDH-28 head in semi-white skin. Yes, I am still practicing anime faceups, and I feel she turned out very classic (think  1970s-1980s) with a hint of Betty Boop. Certainly a fun accident!
I was very unhappy with the first set of eyes I made her, but hey, I learned plenty of ways of not making eyes, so lesson learned! I did make her some new ones later with clouds as eye shines.

First up is my Impldoll Azalea Elf basic in real skin from 2016. She's been color matched to 2D Doll light tan, as she got a new body, again. I do like how the faceup and scarring turned out, but I went about a shade too dark on the faceup (oops). I am not in the mood yet to redo it, so I might blush her chest part to make it match her head more instead... This girl is on her 4th faceup now!

Can't leave her without a comparison to her previous faceup! I do enjoy how much fiercer she looks this time around. As a character she is a retired top-tier-mercenary, so I'm glad she looks dangerous this time. I do want to try and make her a new normal eye, her current eyes are from Ashuradark, but I've been enjoying making eyes myself so I want to try and make her one too. The cybernetic eye is fine as it is, that one will stay, but I am itching to try and figure out her human eye!
Last time she was color matched to 2D Doll normal yellow, but the body was much too big for her. So I got her a size smaller body secondhand for a good price, and now she is a complete doll again! I did try to reshell the head, but it didn't work out, so smaller body it is. Her previous 2D Doll 68cm girl body went to a different head. 

Next up are the only commission I managed to finish in July, the Dream Valley Sherra Owl hip wings in light tan. I was asked to paint them very brightly, which was a fun challenge! I first did a few coats of acrylic paint, then added some depth back in with pastels. Honestly I think they turned out nice. I did not go super detailed, but I also didn't charge that much for the work. It was a fun commission though, I did a good part of it while having an art jam with some local friends, we all worked on faceups and other doll aesthetics. It was a lot of fun!

Now back to faceups! Here's my Fairyland MNF Alicia in natural skin, she got repainted because she got a new wig in as a gift from a friend and client, and it's a different color to her last one so the blonde eyebrows had to go. I also wasn't happy with how uneven the flowers had been last time.
Her eyebrows took a on life of their own, but I think it's fun and makes her look a bit more... confident? Fierce? Either way, she turned out good. My only sadness is that the shimmery gloss along her lips makes it hard to photograph the detailing I put on them.

As you can see, I reeled in the eye shadow, gave her a bit more natural eye blushing, but went darker on the eyelashes using black instead of pale blonde/brown. I love how her eyelashes turned out this time, and the bigger flowers are fun too!

Then last we got a two-for-one deal, my wife's Dollzone Snow twin boys in normal pink skin. I still need to take some pics of them back on their bodies put together, but once I do, I will put those photos into the Owner gallery section of my site. The different purples of their eye detailing is on purpose, because even though they are identical twins, they awakened differently and their abilities changed their hair colors to different ones. 

I didn't paint them perfectly alike, because they have vastly different personalities! The one on the left with the dark purple eyebrows just goes fully natural, he doesn't care too much to fancy himself up, and is more of a nerd. The one on the right with the light purple eyebrows plucks his eyebrows, and applies eyeliner along with sometimes mascara to pop his eyes more. He is also a bit more feminine in demeanor, and he fusses over his own looks. He's smart like his twin brother, but presents himself differently. 

The last time I painted these two boys was in October of 2018, it's always fun for me to see how much I've grown as an artist in the years since I last painted them. Getting them clean for repainting was a bit of a pain, because I didn't want to remove the inside pencil markings to tell their parts apart, so no soaking in the punishment jar. Just lots and lots of scrubbing with a melamine sponge and Isopropyl alcohol at 99,9% strength.

First up is the DxGirly Designs Mishka in caramel skin. She got a super pink and black heart glam look, with a ton of piercings to boot! The client provided me with several piercing styles and combinations that they like, and I was allowed to pick and choose from there which doll got what piercings put on. I also made the resin eyes! I'm really proud of the heart pupils as I hand sculpted them with a needle and a dotting tool. I'm definitely enjoying making eyes!

I also did a matching manicure on the hands, the nails are teeny tiny on them so getting the hearts painted on them was a challenge! But I like how they turned out, as does my client. 

Next up is the DxGirly Designs Bubbles also in caramel skin. She belongs to the same client, but instead of glam got a more ethereal theme going! Again I had a lot of fun with the piercings, and I chose gold ones for her to go with the theme. The eyes are also made by me, but they aren't good (turned out globby) so I need to remake them before I send her back with everything else...

Her hands got a matching manicure, more natural looking with a nice shimmery translucent gloss finish. The hands were a bit annoying to work on due to how lightly the nails are sculpted on the hands, so no real form guides. But I made do!

Following that, is the patch job I did on a Fairyland F60 Mirwen in natural skin. I painted her back in 2023, and she got a little scoffed since then. I am happy I was able to patch her, as I was a little unsure if I'd manage. She's a little rosier along the nose and forehead than before, but both the client and I are satisfied with the patch. Her eyes are the only ones in this post I didn't make, I think they are glass.

Now I get to show off my newest arrival, an Impldoll Moira in dark tan. She is so beautifully sculpted, and the resin is wonderfully deep and dark. She's even darker than my LoongSoul Black Dragon in french brown! It's just by a small amount, as he's super dark too, but she's just a smidge darker. Working on such dark resins is always a fun challenge, as pastel colors mute down as soon as they are sealed in. And gloss makes the colors darken another bit.
Her eyes are the second pair I ever made, and I do want to remake them with round pupils, as she doesn't have cat eyes as a character. I will get there sooner than later I'm sure! If you'd like to see a fully styled picture of her I got one in the owner gallery for everyone's viewing pleasure!

Then last, but certainly not least, is another faceup for myself. This time on a Loongsoul MeiJi in white skin, color matched to 2D Doll normal yellow. She's new to my collection, but is an older gal from 2015. I bought her from a client as they'd decided on a different head for their character, and had no more use for this head. 

A quick before and after comparing her company default faceup to her new custom one. It's always fun to see how different faceups make the same doll look.
She is also a brat and decided to dive out of my cabinet when I opened it the other day. I softened her fall with my arm and ended up with a nice long scratch along the inside of my wrist, and two fingernails got bent backwards. At least she didn't break or chip anything, even if the scratch left a scar. The things we do for these dolls...

Let's start off with the first faceup of May on a Telesthesia Doll Leopard Xun Jian in normal pink, which was also my only commission that month. Mouth pieces are always a special challenge to keep neat, but I did succeed!
Painting masculine faceups can be difficult at times, but I was able to make him sultry and just some light eyeshadow to accent the eyes more, similar to his default faceup shown in the sales photos.

Next up are my Doll Family-A twin BiBi girls in normal pink skin. One of them had a chip along her lip and I didn't like how their eye detailing had turned out last time, so I decided to repaint them both. They are identical twins, with only their beauty mark position being mirrored of each other.
Just as a fun little extra tidbit, I do have both heads labeled with their first name initials, as well as their wigs and outfits. Twins are still sisters, and we don't always like to share with each other...

I also put together a quick before and after of both of them. I liked the expressions a bit more the last time, but I will get used to their stronger brow poses soon enough!

Then last, but certainly not least, is my Dollzone Sho in peach skin with an eye mod done by another artist. I last painted him in 2020, and I am really happy with my growth since then. His eyebrows and lashes are much softer and more delicate than last time, and I changed the designs on his forehead. I give him a small blue circlet, and shimmery blue scales to make him more draconic. He also happens to be my 666th faceup completed to date!

Here's a comparison of his previous faceup to his new one. I also managed to make his freckles more prominent this time, and his lips are darker. He's still a cheeky little thing with his smirk, and I just adore him. I have already posted a portrait of him in the Owner Gallery.

First up is the AelithArt Human Sharky Kabbit in pale skin. He’s a resin 3D printed doll that was just so much fun to work on. I always love doing full face freckles, and it was a teeny challenge to concentrate the freckles mostly along the cheeks and nose since I do the splatter method. the client also asked for a more hallowed look for this toothy fella, to make him look between life and death, so I did more muted colors along with blues and purples for his blushing.
My only sadness was that I didn’t have big enough eyes at home to take his pics with. The ones in the photos above are 20mm and they were too small! But it’s better than nothing, haha! His teeth were a task and a half to get nice, but I’m happy with them and the client is too!

Next up is the SIO2 Bleater that got a bit of a rainbow sherbet dream theme going now that I finished painting her. There are eyes in the head, they just aren’t visible due to how small the eye openings are. I sadly didn’t have any teeny elastic in my restringing kit, so I couldn’t resting her. I wired her arms so she can hold some poses at the very least.

Now this one is a peculiar doll, very odd construction (with pegs and silicone lined holes), and brittle resin. The client had gotten this Nekonyan Cat Doll kit secondhand, only partially built, so I finished putting it together. An elbow peg was broken already by a previous owner, so I fixed that, and then the peg from the tail broke off in the body, so I had to repair that part too… there’s only one magnet set, and that’s to keep the head together. 
The blushing at least went easily and I made some matching acrylic eyes for the cat.

A fascinating part of this kit is, that it can both be either on two and four legs. There’s a slot along the back from the neck that allows it to fold its head back all the way for a 4 legged pose.  Quite an interesting, although janky, construction!

Following that, is a Faceup I did for myself on my Dollzone Moon from the dragon edition. Dollzone has this terrible habit of reusing sculpt names (there’s at least 3 vastly different sculpts from DZ that use the name Moon), so I always feel the need to specify what kind of doll line it’s from. 
Anyway, my Dollzone Moon is a hybrid on a DC K-01 body (technically on the Alberta body but I use the hip converter piece to make her bipedal) in normal yellow. I’ve owned her since 2016, and that was also the last time I’d painted her, so she was due for a spa day and redo!

It’s always fun for me to see how much I’ve improved since painting my dolls last. I think. The skill difference of 9 years is quite drastic! I’m really happy with how she looks now, I over did the lips a little, but it works for her. She looks like she’s grown up a bit too, more mature in other words.

For the last new Faceup for this last month, is another repaint for myself, on a Dollzone Miss Kitty in normal pink skin. She's an old gal, from 2013, and I last painted her in 2015. I finally gave her her signature scars, matching to her 1/3  scale version. Yes, I have Lily shelled twice, but the dolls look vastly different!

Now for a quick before and after as well on her. I feel like my faceups have gotten way more bold since back in the day. And my eyebrows have gained a lot of fluff and space. I think she's still cute though!

And last, but certainly not least, are the elf ear mods on the Doppel Maiden Zeta in normal skin and the Soom ID Phonolus Romantic Vampire in grey skin. Neither has a Faceup by me, as the client didn’t want them redone, but I was up for the challenge of modding the ears and color matching them to the existing Faceups and their resin colors. The two sadly arrived a little scuffed along their chins so I patched that too.
I definitely undercharged, but it’s okay, because I’ve only done a handful of elf ear mods so far. Though I am proud of how these two turned out!

First up is the Soom LittleGem Rico/Serin with romantic eyes in normal skin from the original release. My wife sold the mermaid body ages ago (before we even moved to Austria), but she'd kept the heads and ear shells. We sold the open eyed head last year and I repainted it for the new owner. Either way, the last time I painted this doll was in 2019, after she'd gotten a green wig. The character has always supposed to have red hair, so I got recently a red wig from Leekeworld during their goodbye sale. That pushed me to repaint her to match of course.

It's amazing what a difference of 6 years of practice makes in these two faceups. My only gripe is that I forgot her freckles, but my wife said she's fine without them. The scales shimmer and shine depending on how you hold the head. I really do love my Coliro Pearlcolors for how nice and shiny they stay even under MSC.

Next up is a new addition to my wife's collection, a Magic Mirror Orla in fair skin with a fun makeup look. Handling this doll is a little finicky, but also so smooth! Like no matter which way she's turned or bent, the lines do not change.
I am not sold on the eyelashes I put on her, so I might end up swapping them at a later date, but her eyes are soooooo teeny. She takes 8mm eyes and there's not much room for applied lashes. The sleeping head has a very shallow line, so I kinda just... glued the eyelashes over it. It works well enough!

I'm really happy with how well the two faceplates match each other. That's always a challenge with fantasy faceup pairs, making them match.
I am waiting on a Magic Mirror Branwen and I am really excited for her, as she is similarly constructed to Orla's 1/4 body. I have almost everything ready for her, just waiting on her now! I've always wanted a Magic Mirror doll and seeing them in person and handling them cemented that desire.
But back to faceups!

Last, but certainly not least, we got the Soom LittleGem Shale Romantic in cream white from the Golden Light Children unicorn release in 2011. He got new eyes from Ashuradark, and they made his nearly 10 year old faded faceup all but pale out fully, so he was up for a redo! I love breathing new life into these older dolls. It's also fun to see how much I've improved since painting them the last time.

I didn't have a light box back when I last painted him in 2015 towards the end of the year, but the improvement is obvious in the above comparison. This boy is buttery by now, a long ways from the pale ivory he used to be. He's evenly yellowed too, unlike my bronze Soom Chrom from about the same era, but tans from back then were often rather unstable, with the red pigment always fading first, and drastically.
Either way, back to the Shale! I used a lot more colors for him than last time; pinks, reds, blues, purple, brown, peach, and a little bit of yellow ochre. It definitely makes him look way more lively!
Well, that's it for today. I am crawling back into bed with a big cup of water, I am determined to be well by Monday again, let's just hope my body agrees and listens!
