I did two face ups yesterday, and I've realized that I'm very fast with them. It took me roughly 1.5 hours to paint both head assembly line style. Since they both had the same color scheme and resin tone I just painted them at the same time. I didn't get around to attaching the eyelashes until this morning.
The MSD was originally a punk rocker judging from his old face up, but the character has been re-shelled so the owner asked me to put a natural face up on him. I did a different style of freckles on the YoSD, I was asked to make them more animatic rather than how I normally do them. I also hope I put the eyes into the correct heads. It's difficult when they both have the same size eyes...
I was a busy bee today and did two full face ups and finished another one that was already started.
My partner pointed out that they all seem to have the same color scheme, just with different eyebrow colors. I think it's because each one is natural with similar skin tones.
I feel very accomplished. What's funny is, I've worked on all of these dolls before.
I finished up a new face up yesterday on an Illusion Spirit Toki for a good friend of mine. I've done 4 face ups for her so far. I love working on her dolls, they all tend to be gothic themed, but that's good because it challenges me to push myself out of my comfort zone.
This is my third gothic face up to date. I'm really happy with how he turned out. It's hard to make a smooth gradating effect with dark make up on a white skin doll. Again, that is good because it pushes me.
I find normal skin dolls the easiest to work on because they're the easiest to make seem lively with blushing. With white skin or tan dolls I have to consider my colors a lot more to make them seem alive but stay with their resin color so the head will match the body. I feel I'm getting a lot better at that.
Here we are on the first day of a lovely October, and I have raised my prices by $5 each. There is good news though, I'm no longer charging extra for fantasy work on face ups. So if your character has tattoos or scars on the face, you won't have to pay any more than for a basic face up.
Also I am hosting a free giveaway on my Tumblr. I'm not kidding. I've had this head in my collection for about a year, and I did get her a body, but she just doesn't fit in. So since I got her for free, I'm giving her away for free.
