I finished up two face ups for a new client from the USA yesterday, on their Hujoo Freya sisters. That sculpt is such a cutie, and so affordable! I painted for them a white and a light grey one. I also bought a light box finally, after like... 6 years of being a face up artist? About damn time that I did. I think one of the magnets in it is flipped though, so I have to take it apart a bit and see what's going on in there. But for €11 it's not bad. Anyway, onto some pictures that I took in the light box! Here are the two lovely girls. I wasn't able to get the white one's head off, so I wrapped her body in cling wrap and called it good. The light grey one was a good girl and let me decapitate her for painting. That sounds so horrible outside of the hobby, haha! Oh well. I'm just waiting to hear from the client and get paid for shipping so I can send these two cuties home.
I'm waiting on two boxes of commissions currently, and then later another, and then I should be able to open commissions again. Until next time!

Well, I am getting things done, although slowly. I sent off approval pics of the Hujoo Nano Freya to his owner this afternoon after some finishing touches. He doesn't have eyes at this point yet, but I'm sure the owner will amend that soon enough. I also picked up another local commission from a friend on her Dollzone Hazel. She asked for bright red lips on her and gave me free range on the eyes. The head is still very much a work in progress. It's been a challenge to work on this head, mostly because the lips are so large on this sculpt that they are kind of overpowering bright red. The eyes are far from done, I'm hoping that they'll help pull the face up together and balance it.
I managed to get one commission done, a face up and body blush with a tiny tattoo on a Hujoo Nano Rabi. She is super cute, and my new way of working made the detailing much easier. Sadly my grey didn't want to stick to the ABS very well... ![]() See? Teeny tiny shooting star tattoo on the back. I recently got a new micro liner brush and it is amazing for eyelashes and minuscule detail work. The Hujoo Nano's are only about 12cm big, so you can imagine this body his very tiny. Another commission arrived on Monday, a Fairyland MNF Juri 2013. She's very cute and I'm glad I got to see one in person. Either way, today is my birthday so I won't be working on dolls today. I'll be celebrating my quarter of a century milestone. Thanks for understanding! I finally finished glossing the heads from the last picture, and got a good chunk painted of the modded DZ April head. I had a lot of fun with these guys, though my eyes were ready to pop out working on the Apple Biki head. It's just so tiny... I also have some WIP shots of the DZ April head. I was originally trying to match her to her default face up, but that quickly proved to be too difficult with just pastels. I valiantly tried for over an hour, before I gave up and just went to town on the head. She is a fantasy character anyway. Basically what I did was mod her eyes to dreaming (first mod I've done like that), I just now need to learn how to use my airbrush so I can colormatch the apoxie sculpt parts to the skin tone better. Oh well, I'll do that next time... The head is no where near done with the paint job.
In other news, the pipe burst in our wall again flooding half the living room this time. We also have a new hole in the wall from that. Hopefully this time when they fix it they won't need to punch another hole in. I was certainly busy yesterday. I painted 3 heads and cleaned up a dreaming eye mod I was working on. From left to right:
Apple Biki Head, Fairyland LTF Baby Ruru, Hujoo Nano Freya, Dollzone April. Not much is left on the painted heads, only gloss and they can all go home. The DZ April head is getting painted hopefully today along with another head I received in the mail yesterday from a commissioner. It's a good thing I bought more MSC recently because I would have been down to just 1 bottle, and that's never enough. I'm safely at 4 bottles now, so I won't need to worry about stocking up again anytime soon... hopefully that is. That's right, a different friend with a light grey Hujoo Nano Freya asked me to give her a real basic face up as well. It took me a few days to get to it, but she is now done and ready to go home. She's really cute, but I can't get her to stop being wall-eyed. It's the way she's strung on the inside. She doesn't have an S-hook, the elastic just loops around the pegs her headback slides into. Now for the FYI. I'm going to be raising my prices by $5 coming October. Anyone that still contacts me and ships a commission to me before October will still get the current prices. Basically anything shipped after Monday will be the new prices. I have also now reached 90 face ups, so it's time for... another collage! I'm only 10 face ups away from my goal of reaching 100 this year. When I started the year I was at about 47. Either way, I'm super excited by the concept of possibly getting to 100 face ups within the next 3 months. I think I can manage that, but I wouldn't be able to do so without you.
So I want to say thank you to everyone that's supported me and commissioned me. I'll probably write up a real sappy post once I get to 100 face ups. Yesterday two friends came over, and one of them brought one of the new Hujoo Nano Freya's she'd just received from JunkySpot. She asked me to paint it like the company face up because there were no painted ones offered in stock. She's super cute, she even has little paws and a tiny tail. I was going to take pictures of her all put together, except my camera lens keeps getting stuck at the focus. I've been able to fix it so far, but I don't know how much life the lens has left in it. The only other lens I have is a telelens.
Now that I'm down to just one commission head with me that I need to finish, I'm almost ready to reopen commissions again! All I really have left is a Rosenlied Basic Aura to do. Now onto the last two commissions I completed in the past week! Here we have a Hujoo Sara once again. I finally got to use some of my fantasy colored eyelashes on this girl, and they look super pretty. The lower eyelashes turned out a little intense, but the owner wants to give the face up a chance before I redo it. I offered since they are really strong, but I'm fine with not working on the head again immediately. And this one is a Fantasy Doll Pamela that I modded into a boy body. I did the face up and body work on him. He's meant to be a little mushroom boy and is his owner's first doll. He'll be getting shipped home to Germany around next week. I can't wait to see him with his proper (blue) eyes and a wig!
I finished up two face ups yesterday, and have one more to go today along with a body blush and a few tattoos. I will tackle that as soon as my feet are relaxed and I've had some lunch. Plus I need to go to the post office. Anyway, onto the dolls that I finished up yesterday. A Hujoo Freyr, and a Soom MD Shale. First up is the Hujoo Freyr. He's getting shipped to Lithuania today. I just need to rest a little before I go to the post office. Second we have the Soom MD Shale. I was asked to give him a concerned look and to keep the blushing very soft and gentle. I should post a picture of him with his wig on, he's really cute.
Here's an in progress shot of one of the commissions I'm working on. The weather's been atrocious to face up at home and will remain so for the next week (rain rain and more rain). Anyway, I need to do some changes on the face up above (Hujoo Freyr), but that's okay. Also the eye holder things don't really work so I stuck some eyes in with putty. Such a strange little doll.
Now I better finish my breakfast and flit off to work. Thanks to everyone for being so patient with me this past month. ![]() I did three face ups for the same person on Monday. I'm still waiting on hearing back on approval or not. I'd like to be able to send them back soon. The heads are a Hujoo Yomi, Hujoo Sara, and an Obitsu 27cm Head. The Obitsu head was truly puny to work on, and I was asked to do freckles. Good thing my technique of freckles is easy and can be applied to any sized doll depending on how much water I use. Now the two Hujoos were interesting to work on because they both have subtractive markings in their blushing. Stupidly enough I put the music notes on the Hujoo Yomi on the wrong cheek so I asked the owner whether they want me to redo the face up or not. I like the rest of it, but I haven't heard back from them yet. Also the Obitsu takes really teeny tiny eyes. I had a hard time getting them into the head...
Finally finished working on the Freya and took some decent shots of her. Good thing I have a natural light lamp because the sun isn't even up yet here. I sent pictures to the commissioner, and she loves her so she'll be going home today. I didn't blush the wrist or ankle joints because it would chip and rub off instantly. Also Hujoo Freya's feet are annoying to take off. Glad I'm done with her and I'm sure she'll be well loved back home!
I'm stopping here tonight until I hear back from the commissioner. Her tail is the same color gradation as the rest of her colored parts. I was asked to blush her like a red point siamese.
This is what my work table looks like right now. Random body parts hanging out on hemostats waiting to dry before I keep going. Once I get done blushing and putting her back together I will spray her whole body down with MSC (again) to make sure she stays as she is.
FYI, having multiple hemostats is awesome. Just saying. Finished up the Hujoo Freya that a friend handed me to face up for her. She wanted her to look somewhat like a snow bengal, so I complied to the best of my abilities with working on just the head. I might blush her back a bit too, but this morning I only had time for the head. Isn't she cute? Detail shots below!
