Another month done with, and a couple of new pieces to share!
May was a hectic and stressful month, but I still managed to do a couple of faceups. I only managed 3 as I had very few commissions come in last month, but hey, better some than none! I was also sick a lot May and had a lot of extra things to do, so I'm glad I was able to do something creative. I painted one of those cute Penny's Blind Box Antu Centaurs (Ponder/Thought), a LatiDoll Blue Rucas, and an Iplehouse J.I.D Sierra. Without further ado, onto the pictures and rambles under the read more break!

It's May, so now I am gonna post the completed work from April, but before I get into that I wanted to go over the FYI.
The cost of living has gone up horribly this year along with my rent, so I needed to increase my prices as well. Please see Commission & Prices for the new costs. All estimates I have already provided are valid and won't be changed. Commissions are still open, so feel free to contact me for a quote or a slot! Now with the FYI out of the way, let's cover what aesthetics I did the last month. I worked on a Dollzone Po, an Iplehouse EID Gentle Akando, a pair of Miracle Doll 1/4 girl feet, a Dollmore Kid Sona, and a pair of Fairyland MNF Roller Skates. Without further ado, onto some pictures under the break! Another rotation around the sun and I am a year older as of yesterday. This past year has been full of ups and downs, making me sick at times. I'm going to ease gently into this new year and keep my expectations modest haha. I didn't extend the contract of the job past my trial month, so now I am back to looking for something more fitting.
Since it was my 33rd birthday on April 1st, how about a special birthday sale? Commission one service, and get the second at 33% off! Discount will be applied to the smaller amount. I'm officially reopening slots for this month as I am nearly done with all my outstanding commissions! By the time the new commissions arrive I should be done with the others. Anyway, I got some faceups to share here! One is a Volks SD Belle in pure skin normal, and the other is my Iplehouse EID Camilla in peach gold skin. I have a couple more things to document, so those I will share in another post. Without further ado, onto some pictures under the read more break! 2021 has come and gone, and we are 3 days into 2022. What a year 2021 was too... I got severe burnout, caught covid, lost my job, my wife lost her job, rebuilt my mental health, established goals for my future and how I want to proceed, and generally I focused on myself. I'm grateful we had the resources for me to do so.
Dollwise I wasn't as proactive as in previous years, as I only managed 30 faceups in 2021, and 39 in 2020. These two last years have been really hard on everyone. I did manage to crank out a couple more things in December 2021, so I will post those now. I got to finish painting the Iplehouse HID Woman hands, Miracle Doll 1/4 Girl hands, Sugarble Darlene, Dollpamm Loli girl body, a Fairyland RLF Luna, and a Fairyland MNF Miyu. Be prepared for a long post. Without further ado, onto some pictures under the break! I have several new things to show, but for once I will go into the FYI first before I show the newest work:
I recently lost my job, and due to how they let me go, I cannot get unemployment until April because I am technically still employed until the end of this month (March 2021). I am gonna have to be frugal with my spending, to stretch my savings as much as I can. Don't worry, my wife and I have an emergency fund that covers 3 months of our expenses. Fortunately my wife is still employed, so there's a good chance we can stretch the emergency fund even further. As to what this means for my commissions, is that I raised my prices. I've been undercharging for ages considering the skill and experience that I have. Thank you for understanding! All current commissions that I have agreed to take on will remain at the quoted price. So no sudden extra charges for those! -------------- Now, for the work I want to show I have my Dragondoll Cheng, a Gulliver Small Studio Xiaoxi Micro Mermaid, and the Iplehouse J.I.D. Body. Be warned, the last set of pictures has doll nudity. Without further ado, onto some pictures under the break! Okay, I am still bad at updating here, and I apologize for that. With the holidays I had little time to devote to the website or faceup work. That'll be my New Year's Resolution, keep up to date better (like I told myself at the beginning of this year, and we all know how that went).
Anyway, today I will show a Fairyland RealFee Pano, a MYOU Grace, and an Iplehouse J.I.D. Benny. I only have 2 faceups and 4 body blushes left to do, and I can finally reopen commissions. The end is nigh! Without further ado, pictures under the read more break. First, my new prices have gone live as of last week, but I'm not quite ready to take on more commissions yet as I just had some that arrive yesterday that I accepted several months ago (they were sent from the companies straight to me). I'd like to at least get one of those done before I reopen my slots!
But now to get to the meat of this post. I got to paint an Atelier Momoni Somni, an Iplehouse FID Leonard, and another Resinsoul Mei. Without further ado, onto some pictures under the break! I got a new commission in a lot sooner than expected (Saturday) as the client had the head sent directly to me from the company. Either way, I buckled down yesterday and after painting almost all of yesterday and some this morning I got it done! The head is an Iplehouse Ashanti in grey skin. I was asked to make her look like a skull like a La Catrina. It definitely was a challenge, but a fun one! I've never been good with sugar skull face ups, but putting a realistic spin on the skull paint job definitely helped. Anyway, onto some pictures! The client had sent me a mock up of what they wanted for the face up, which definitely helped as well. I did end up painting over the wisdom teeth to make bigger jaw gaps. I haven't felt this challenged by a face up in a long time, I can't wait to see how she'll look once the client has her. I know the plans, but I'm not telling here yet!
I'm also now full for my October slots as I'm waiting on 6 heads from the EU, and about 4 more from the USA. I'm so excited to work on dolls again. I was having serious face up withdrawal. And no, I do not mean sniffing the sealant, I always wear a mask when spraying and letting the parts dry, haha! Anyway, that's all from me for now. Until next time! I got one more body blush done on Sunday and approved yesterday morning! This time I worked on an Iplehouse FID man body in normal skin. I also restrung him with new elastic. Holy cow was that a challenge due to how small his elastic channels are! It literally took me an hour to restring him because I couldn't get his s-hooks back in place. Anyway, onto some pictures! He has so many muscles this guy, it's insane! It's like someone ordered a muscle sandwich topped with more muscles. Don't get me wrong, he's beautifully sculpted, but wow, that's a lot of veins on him! I had his head sent with too, but I didn't do his face up as that's an Iplehouse default. I'm glad the client sent the head with so I could match the blushing colors to the face up so it doesn't look weird! Just look at this handsome hunk of resin! The head is the Lawrence sculpt from Iplehouse. Definitely some nice features on this guy!
Oh! I am hoping to re-open commissions soon! I already have a full waitlist at this time, so I'm hoping to get through those faster. Body blushes really take a lot of of me. I definitely prefer doing face ups, but I can see the appeal of body blushes too! Until next time! Oh man, with my new work schedule (that still changes from week to week after heaving a steady set schedule for over a year) has been really cutting into my face up time. I will get my last few commissions done though, I'll just have to do some time juggling! Anyway, this weekend I completed an Iplehouse YID Erica and another Fairyland LTF Rolly VE with an eye opening mod. First up is the Iplehouse YID Erica in special real skin. She was a lot of fun to work on to give her an icy look. Sorry for the third image being blurry, I'd already packed up the head so I couldn't retake that one. Then we have a dear friend's Fairyland LTF Rolly VE in natural skin. Her eyes were already opened by a previous artist, but I opened and shaped them a little more to make her less sleepy looking. I was asked to match her eyebrows and eyelashes to her wig, and give her blue eyeliner along with light freckles. This is at least her 3rd face up, I'm the third artist to work on her. Here's a before and after of her last face up by another artist that sadly chipped. She made a character change, hence why she needed a new look anyway! Eye opening mods with existing eyewells are a lot less intimidating than I thought they'd be. Before this I've done an eye closing mod, which wasn't too difficult either. It's kind of entertaining how I'm branching out into modding.
I'm expecting another face up to do for the same client/friend that the Rolly belongs to, as another one of her doll's face up chipped. She always has such fun concepts for me to work off of! Either way, that's it for now, until next time! Alrighty! I have two more face ups to show, one is an Unoa Chibi Roar face plate in normal skin and the other is an Iplehouse SID Lee in special real skin. They are from separate clients, which is why they are so vastly differently themed. Anyway, onto some pictures! First up is the Unoa Chibi Roar face plate. She's a spunky little sassy thing. The only difficulty I ran into was the sculpted eyebrows. They were just higher up than I would have placed the eyebrows personally. Either way, she's a cute one! Then here we have the Iplehouse SID Lee, who got some facial hair and bushy man-brows. The special real skin is an interesting tan color, but at least I figured out a good palette for it color wise. This is only the second Iplehouse head I've worked on, and it also ended up with facial hair. That's going of amusing to me! Oh! The Iplehouse face up is now my 260th to date! Which means that I get to post another collage update! This year so far I've done 45 face ups this year! Let's see how many more I can do by the end of this year!
That's it for now from me, until next time! I finally was able to finish one of my more difficult commissions, lots of first things to be done for me as a face up artist with this one! The commission consisted of working on a Dollclans Vezeto in normal skin and an Iplehouse SID male torso in special real skin. The work that needed to be done was extensive. I had to mod the neck smaller by about 1.5cm (first neck mod ever for me), color match the head to the torso, blush the torso and paint body hair, and then finally also a face up on the head. The color match alone took me 3 days to do as I did it all with pastels. I sadly don't know how to use an airbrush. Either way, onto some pictures! First up is the head, he's quite a few shades darker now than when he came to me. I struggled with the color match because I started it too orange, so I kept on having to put layers of light blue over it to tone it down. It turned out a little dark, but it's much better than before I blushed him! In the last picture you can see his headcap as a comparison. Then here we have the body, or rather the torso of an Iplehouse SID male body in special real skin. The mod took quite a while to do too, and I had to use my dremel to get anywhere with it. Once I had it almost small enough I finished it off with sand paper. I spent roughly 3-4 hours on the body hair alone. This is only the second time I've done body hair so far! Entertainingly enough, both times the clients asked for unnatural colors; blue for the first one, and wine red for this one. And here we have the comparison of the head before and after color matching and face upping. What a difference! Here you can see that the head ended up being a little too dark, but I feel it's an acceptable difference. I definitely under charged for the color matching as I didn't realize how long and intensive it was going to be...
Anyway, I'm glad he's done! Now onto my next commissions! I'm on a roll! I finished up a two part commission this morning (just needed gloss and eyelashes), I already had the first face up done on the 23rd, so I just needed to do the second face up which I did yesterday. This time I worked on a Fairyland RealFee Mari in natural skin, who is such a cute sculpt! I'm so glad I've gotten to work on one, definitely a cutie. The client asked for scales on her and lots of blue! Without further ado, onto some pictures! I always love doing lips with some fantasy aspects on them, like the blue corners and edges. It just adds a little something! Also I did my first serious neck mod for one of the commissions I'm working on. It's an Iplehouse SID torso that needed the neck slimmed by over a centimeter to fit a Dollclans Vezeto head. The head will be colormatched! I need to give him one more good sanding session to buff out the marks, but otherwise the fit is good now! He has excellent mobility.
Now for the FYi: I am expecting 2 more packages for face up work, the majority is here. I'm closing up commissions again for the time being until I make a serious dent into everything I got to do! I'll post a blog post once I'm ready to take on more commissions again. My hours are increasing at my job so I'm going to have to get creative with my time management. I'm slowly getting used to face upping in the afternoon (my best working time is morning), which is great as I usually work mornings. Either way, thanks for sticking with me everyone! That's it for now, until next time! |
