My tan DZ Stramonium is finally done aesthetic wise, I did the scar on her chest and a partial body blush on her torso. I just can't get over how pretty this doll is.
Once I clean up my poor desk again, I will take some good documentation pictures of her body blush and scar mod. For now this will have to do. I really love how the scar turned out, I just wish doing scars took less time (gotta wait for the glue to dry), but oh well. The end result of patience is usually best.
Also I now have most of my commissions in hand, with one more arriving probably today or Monday and then I'll be painting faces like a maniac. I currently have 3 heads to paint, with 1 more arriving. I also finally finished blushing the ears for my penpal, so once I document those I'll be sending them out to her.
I did it! I got to my 100th face up. You guys have no idea how excited this has me since I've been doing this since about August 2011, though I only started taking commissions for reals in 2012.
Here's the before and after shot as well. I did have help on her eyebrows and eyelashes when I worked on her the first time. Still really happy with my improvement. I'm also currently working on another commission, a Soom FCE Shale. He's turning out lovely so far, but finding stones the right size for his face has proven to be very difficult. Oh well, I'll figure something out.
I managed to complete another commission yesterday, an Illusion Spirit Annabel. That leaves me with only one commission left which I'm hoping to work on this morning.
The Annabel, named Kes, belongs to a very good friend of mine and she loves the way she turned out. She's going home today with her.
This was the first head I worked on that had teeth. I was asked to keep her very light and ethereal because she's an ice princess. That's also why she has snowflakes around her eyes.
On Friday I'm leaving for Austria for two weeks, so I'm glad I almost got all of my commissions done. Only 1 more and I'm free!
Free until I get back that is.
Nah, I love doing face ups. It's so much fun for me and I love seeing peoples happy reactions when I show them what I've done with their dolls.
I photographed the ZM ears I've blushed so far. They're blushed in the same manner because they were for the same doll, but when he upgraded to larger ears I didn't bother wiping the little ones.
The large ears are actually a reject pair. The mold was breaking at that point so I got them for free. All I had to do was clean them up and glue in magnets. The inside of them are really porous, but that's okay. I love them either way, and so does my doll Val who wears them. The picture below (as lousy as it is) shows how large the ears are. He is a 70cm doll, and very pleased with himself.
Well, I took the plunge. I started making my own BJD. So far all I've got is the head. She doesn't have ears yet because I would like to try and attach them separately so they can move, much like bunny ears, but on the side of the head.
She is SD sized, and wears 16mm eyes and a 7/8 wig. I tried an 8/9 on her, it was way too big. I finally got to use my new dremel to bevel the eye sockets. Sadly I do not have the right sized bit, so it took forever to even get to where I'm at.
Now for some pictures:
I'm rather proud of her already. It was a challenge getting the tinfoil out of her, and she cracked in a few places when I did that. Luckily I'm not one of those "First try is perfect!" people so I simply sculpted over the cracks and what not to strengthen the bond and baked her again. I only baked her 10 minutes at a time to avoid over baking her.
There we go! I cleaned up all three pairs now that I've cast. One I'm never selling/giving away because it was the first one and has stunted talons. The other two I might be willing to part with, but not yet. I first want to paint them all pretty!
Here you can see that I stuck them on three different sized dolls for size comparisons. I originally intended them for YoSDs, but they work great on MSD too. A little small on the SD though. I should be able to paint them on Thursday if the weather permits. I know it won't tomorrow, too humid and gross, unless I go to college and do it there. Hmm...
