I've been hard at work on the Dollshe Hound body and have finished the upper body so far. I will need to take him apart again and suede him to keep him from scratching the tattoos immediately. All that's left now are his mile long legs and feet.
Currently I'm taking a break from him (which the client is fine with) as I need to figure out how to paint his massive legs, and the best way of sealing them to keep the tattoos lined up. Meanwhile I received another doll to paint, an Unoa Alchemy Lusis who needs a face up removal and a face up/body blush/mani/pedicure. Without further ado, onto some pictures under the read more break!

Now that my mother is back home, I jumped head first back into working on commissions. I also shipped out all the finished ones I had on me and they are all homeward bound now! These past couple of days I've been slaving away on the Dollshe Hound body (from the Dollshe Saint head), mapping out a full body tattoo. So far his back is done, arms are in the coloring stage, and his chest tattoo is mapped!
Without further ado, onto some pictures under the read more break! I've had a busy couple of days where I cranked out a couple commissions, and started on another! I cleaned, sueded, restrung, and blushed a Doll Chateau K-01 body, cleaned and face upped another Dollzone Dale (human bodied this time), and modded some fangs onto a Doll Leaves Laura who will get face upped in the next few days! I'm excited to show the new work!
Without further ado, onto some pictures under the cut! I've been a busy bee this weekend so far! I finished up a Nefer Kane Mystery Elf in normal skin (such a delicate little thing) and started on a Nefer Kane Sarina in white skin. They are definitely interesting sculpts, though personally I prefer to admire them in others collections. They are not for me. Without further ado, onto some pictures! Here are the Nefer Kane dolls I've been working on. I haven't taken a picture yet of the Sarina's body, and her face up just needs painted eyelashes, gloss, and applied eyelashes still and she's done too. Please excuse the bad cell phone pictures. I don't like lugging out the DSLR for simple WIP shots. I also took a picture of the Mystery Elf's eyes, because they are so small. They were a pain to get into her head because the putty kept sticking to my finger and not the resin. I won in the end! Here you can also see the dandelion better on her cheek. I have relatively small hands given the fact that I'm only 155cm (5'1") tall, the eyes are only 6mm! Yes, I did measure them because I was curious. They are little galaxy acrylic eyes.
Tomorrow it's back to work for me, but I have Wednesday off so maybe I can crank out more work! I've been struggling a bit catching up with my face up work due to working so much at my day job (40+ hours a week on average, plus an hour commute to and from daily). I miss working on dolls consistently, but migraines have been halting my work on the weekends. Sigh... Anyway, this is all from me for now, until next time! It's been a while since I've thrown an update up here. Work has been good, though it eats up my weekdays like no tomorrow. So I've had to cram my commissions into the weekend because I just can't logistically work on them during the weekdays (I work 9-10 hour days and commute for 2 hours every day). Anyway, that hasn't stopped me from making progress on my large commission list! The main doll I've been working on is the Resinsoul Sui. His colors are black and purple. His wings are huge, they are the length of my lower arm. Since I'm a herp derp and don't know how to use an airbrush, I've been blushing everything by hand with pastels. Let me show what I've done on him so far! Here's everything I've done on him so far. His head and fantasy parts are all done, all that's left now is the body. I got the first layer on the body almost done, and then I'll seal and do a second layer to make the colors pop more. Please excuse the crappy quality pictures, they were taken with my cell phone.
I've also restrung and sueded him, as well as fixed a broken finger. He arrived to me with a finger broken off and I decided to fix it good. I drilled a hole into the hand and the finger, inserted a metal bar coated in superglue, filled in the minor gaps with epoxy and once it was all cured I sanded it smooth. The first two times I tried to fix the finger with just super glue or epoxy it wouldn't hold. That is all for now, until next time! Sorry for dropping off of the face off the earth, but I was a busy bee this past weekend to make up for it! I completed 2 face ups and started on another.
The two I finished were a CP Luts Delf modded SS Chiwoo and a Switch Shiho. The third face up I started on is on a Doll Love YouYou. I also never showed the color matched Doll Leaves Dreaming Jax! I'll need to post her too. Without further ado, onto some pictures! I had a long week, but I managed to relax a bit with a face up on Friday. I got to paint a Lati S.Belle in normal skin as a little goth. She turned out really cute! I can't wait to see her put together! Without further ado, onto some pictures! She's cute as a button! I had a lot of fun with painting her. I didn't want her lips to be pure black, so I made them a grayish red instead. I also received a large commission order, one for 4 SD heads. Three still had face ups, so I scrubbed those clean last night and gave the 4th head a cleaning too. The poor eraser stood no chance against them. I'm impressed it only took one whole eraser to get them all clean with. From left to right we have a modded Luts CP Chiwoo SS, a Luts CP Nanuri '06, a Luts Winter 2011 Event Head, and a Luts Loid. All except for the Chiwoo, who is beauty white, are normal skin.
I've already started on all the normal skin heads as they pretty much all can use the same palette for blushing. So far they got their eyebrows and the first blushing layer. The Chiwoo will get painted by himself as he needs a different palette for being white skin. I'm having fun either way! Anyway, that's all from me for now! Until next time! I've been productive again since coming back from New York, so that's good! I started on the Impldoll Azalea and Gela heads and I'm nearing completion. I'm just waiting to hear from the client on what else they'd like me to add or if I can gloss and apply eyelashes at this point. I'm personally happy with how they turned out so far. Both are in custom blue colors, which were an interesting challenge to work on, but also fun! Without further ado, onto some pictures! The first picture of the Azalea is the truest to her actual color, she's a gorgeous bright robins egg blue. The Gela is a paler blue, but still very lovely!
The Azalea arrived with a very heavy airbrushed face up that had chipped along the nose and chin, so a redo was in order. The Gela arrived with a far too pink and grey face up from the company and the client wanted her to be more blue. Now to just wait and hear from the client! I had a very productive weekend and managed to finish the Doll Chateau Andre and start on another commission almost finishing it! I got to paint an Aileen Doll Cyclops girl, but she isn't done yet. Waiting to hear from the client on her so I know whether I can continue or if I need to make any changes. The weather was great this weekend so I took advantage of that! Without further ado, onto some pictures! Here are the detail shots of the DC Andre in white skin. He's the brother to the Jakov I painted last time with the black fantasy parts. Doll Chateau has such cute and unique event dolls, even if a lot of them don't pose too well, haha. Then here we have the Aileen Doll Cyclops girl WIP pictures. This is the only second time I've ever done a galaxy themed face up, I'd forgotten how much of a challenge they are, but also a lot of fun!
As mentioned before, I'm waiting to hear from the client to see how she likes the work so far. I'm hoping I won't have to try and do painted eyelashes on her, as every time I tried they looked really odd. So I kept wiping them away again. We will just have to wait and see! I've been back a few days now from vacationing with my wife and in-laws in Florida, and I think I've finally settled back into the groove of things. Work is a bit hectic with it being the new year (we need everything new from the patients), and my hours are still a bit crazy for another few weeks I think. Anyway, I did manage to squeeze out a face up and started work on a massive commission. The face up I did is on a Doll Chateau Andre in white skin, and the other head I started on is a Nobility Doll MNM Bill Kaulitz head. First up is a picture of the DC Andre. All I really have left on his face is gloss, and then I'll blush his body too. I started on that, but I haven't gotten far yet unfortunately. He's the brother of the DC Jakov I painted recently, the one with the black horns and wings! Then here's the Nobility Doll MNM Bill Kaulitz head. So far I've modded his eyes more open and gave her ear gages. That's the first time I've done a mod like that! Took a while to figure out. Finally I just carved into his ear and shoved the eyelet in and sculpted around it. The addition will be color matched as he needs to be color matched in general to a LoongSoul NS body. He's going to be Tom, Bill's brohter, hence why the eye opening mod (they are identical twins but have some differences). I'm planning on face upping my brains out this weekend!
Now for the FYI: I'm going to stay closed until I get through the large part of my commissions. They really piled up and I'm still adjusting to having less time to work on doll stuff. So the commissions have really piled up and I feel awful about that. So I'm going to play catch up. It's also been exceptionally cold here (-2F with a real feel of -19F on average), so getting to working on dolls has been a challenge. Thanks for understanding, you guys are the best! It's been a looooong week for me work wise so it felt good to work on dolls today a bit! I mostly did modding work, I'm hoping to actually face up tomorrow! I finally dyed the Ringdoll Fat Happiness to a nice chocolate tan color. It didn't turn out very even, but it's still decent for my first time dyeing a doll. I had already sanded him completely as he had a previous dye job that hadn't gone too well. The client is happy with the dye job, so now I can finally give him a face up! What amazed me the most with the Fat Happiness is that he's a lot bigger than I thought! He's a large YoSD! Either way, I used iDye Poly in brown to get him this color. I kept increasing the timer to get all the pieces the same color roughly! It's amazing how different he looks from when he first arrived to me. Then here's the other doll I modded today, a Resinsoul Mei in light tan/coffee color. The client only wanted me to give her fangs, they are going to try their hand at giving her a face up themselves. I was happy to do the mod for them. Once the fangs cure fully I'm going to clean up the grey on the lip.
That's it for now from me, until next time! I only have a small update since the last time as I was really sick all of last week. I'm finally better though (not even a sniffly nose anymore!) so this week I'm resuming working on commissions! What I was able to do was finish sanding the Ringdoll Fat Happiness to clean up an old dye attempt and prep him for a new dye job. Here's his before and after clean up. I spent a good few days sanding him all over. It's not perfect the clean up, but he's going to get dyed dark tan again so I'm hoping that'll cover the spots I wasn't able to get clean!
I'm going to be using iDye Poly brown, which the client provided for me. I have everything else needed (like a stainless steel pot), so now I just need to give him a good rinse and dye him. Once he's dyed he's going to also get a face up. I also got an Impldoll Isaac to paint for a friend, which I'm also hoping to knock out this week! I work awkward hours so I'm hoping to get some work done at least! I don't work Thursday (Thanksgiving), but that day is already busy with holiday prep. Either way, I'm looking forward to working on dolls again! I have some new work to show from the weekend, but it's still very much WIP. I started on a Fairyland PKF Halloween Event face plate from a year or so ago, and on another Doll Chateau Jakov. The PKF is almost done, the Jakov's face I have to tweak a little and start on the body/fantasy blushing. The PKF just needs gloss now, while the Jakov needs his lips redone, which shouldn't be too big of a task. I love how different both of these look from the previous times I've worked on these sculpts.
My work schedule has been crazy again this week as one of our closing receptionists quit on the spot, so we're trying to figure out the coverage for those two days as there's only two of us who can work then, and we're both openers. We'll figure it out until someone new gets hired and trained in. Anyway, until next time! I'm on a roll! I finished up a two part commission this morning (just needed gloss and eyelashes), I already had the first face up done on the 23rd, so I just needed to do the second face up which I did yesterday. This time I worked on a Fairyland RealFee Mari in natural skin, who is such a cute sculpt! I'm so glad I've gotten to work on one, definitely a cutie. The client asked for scales on her and lots of blue! Without further ado, onto some pictures! I always love doing lips with some fantasy aspects on them, like the blue corners and edges. It just adds a little something! Also I did my first serious neck mod for one of the commissions I'm working on. It's an Iplehouse SID torso that needed the neck slimmed by over a centimeter to fit a Dollclans Vezeto head. The head will be colormatched! I need to give him one more good sanding session to buff out the marks, but otherwise the fit is good now! He has excellent mobility.
Now for the FYi: I am expecting 2 more packages for face up work, the majority is here. I'm closing up commissions again for the time being until I make a serious dent into everything I got to do! I'll post a blog post once I'm ready to take on more commissions again. My hours are increasing at my job so I'm going to have to get creative with my time management. I'm slowly getting used to face upping in the afternoon (my best working time is morning), which is great as I usually work mornings. Either way, thanks for sticking with me everyone! That's it for now, until next time! This weekend was a little less productive than last, but I still got some things done and a WIP to show! I finished up the third part of a three part commission, the Paper & Sakura Kazarai cat in black resin. She was a bit of a challenge to work on as my pastels were fighting me on showing up on her, so I mostly stuck to paint, but even that was fighting me. In the end I am pleased with the outcome though! Here are the pictures of the Kazarai. She and the other two heads are on their way home now! I can't wait to see some owner pictures of the lot! Now I also have a WIP, a long time one. I'm almost done with the Doll Chateau Jakov finally. Just a couple more layers of pastels along the body and he's ready to go home too. The weather hasn't been favorable these last two days, but I am determined to get things done!
Now for the FYI: I decided to add an FAQ section to my site. I'll still expand on it as I go along, but I've been debating putting one up for a while. I also put in a little blurb about myself too, just to put a face to the name. If you have any other questions you think I could answer on here, whether basic BJD related or something about me, feel free to comment or send me a note through my contact page! That's all for now, until next time! |
