It's been a while since I've updated the site, so I cleaned up the example gallery a little, removing older face ups to keep the rest more up to date to my current skill level. I also repainted my Fairyland LTF Dark Elf Soo in tan skin because her old face up had bothered me for a while... I'll get to the FYI after the face up pictures. Here's my little cutie! I actually had to start over 2/3 of the way through the face up because I hated how her blushing was coming out. It looked like she'd gotten sunburnt! But that is a shame that I did not document with photos, so let's just sweep that failure under the rug to be forgotten forever. Here's the comparison of her previous to current face up. I've owned her since 2013 I think (got her secondhand), and her last face up was on her for a good 4 years, so it was time to redo it. What was entertaining was that she has yellowed in that time, except under her old eyebrows. I'm not the most careful with my own dolls, but commissions I treat with waaaay more respect than my own because I don't care if my dolls yellow. But I don't want to do that to a client's doll!
Anyway, onto the FYI: I'm closing new commissions for the moment because I have so many multipart ones incoming that I want to devote my time to. I'd rather keep my turn around time as it is while I'm looking for a full time job here again. I will make a blog post and update the landing page of my site when I'm ready to take on more again! That is all for now, until next time!

I finished up the last face up that I started on August 8th, 2015. I experimented a little with it and it ended up being very very sparkly... Not that that's a bad thing, but I'm still trying to decide if I like it or not. Fortunately it's on one of my own dolls, so I can always redo it later. Anyway, the sculpt is a Fairyland LTF Juri 2013 that I received in a trade with a customer (who is a total sweetheart by the way). She promptly stole my Chiwoo Elf Girl's body, so I may end up selling those FP's as I already sold a few others of my dolls. On to some pictures! I went a little overboard with my shimmer powder (I mixed it into gloss and the sealed it down again to get rid of the shine and just keep the shimmer), which is why I'm not sure if I like it or not. I wish I hadn't put them onto her eyelashes because I loved how those had turned out. Oh well. I'll give the face up a few days and see if I figure out whether I like it or not! I actually finished the face up yesterday in the afternoon. I would have done more work this morning, but it was raining and I didn't have time to get to my back up place to face up on rainy/humid days. Still need to finish another part of a commission by Sunday. It'll be a little tricky as I work 6 days this week (Monday - Saturday), but I will manage it!
My SO asked me to repaint her Fairyland LTF Dark Elf Soo faceplates as she wasn't bonding with her anymore with her old design. She's refreshing her into a Kiki styled doll based off of Kiki's Delivery Service. I also started chipping away at more commissions again, so that's good. It's been raining all of yesterday and today so things are slowing down a bit again for my work speed. I'm sorry about that... Anyway, here are the two faceplates I worked on on Friday. Gluing eyelashes onto the sleeping plate was a pain in the bum!
I decided randomly yesterday to redo my Fairyland LTF Chiwoo Elf Girl's face up yesterday and while doing so I also painted her sleeping plate at the same time. She turned out pretty cute, though her eyelashes on the sleeping plate where a nightmare to apply. Don't get me wrong, I really like them, but she was fighting me bitterly on them. She also said no to freckles this time. I tried, but they didn't look good so I just wiped them all off again. Anyway, onto the detail shots! Isn't she cute? The orchid over the eye turned out a lot darker than anticipated, but it's still pretty at least. Over all I'm happy with the face up. My neck hurt after the many hours it took to get the face ups done, but it was totally worth it.
I finally got around to documenting my latest face up. It's on my own Fairyland LTF DES in tan. She's super cute and the FL tan is actually really nice, I like it a lot. It's so funny to compare her to my fiancee's LTF DES in normal skin. Here is Bonnie, she's Jazz's, my DZ Stramonium, daughter. I'm actually in the middle of modding a white LTF hand to look like bone, so keep your eyes peeled for that too!
Now I just need to buckle down and finish up the rest of my commissions. It's been really hectic with work and trying to find a new job that is less draining. Enough whining now, and back to work with me! I finally finished glossing the heads from the last picture, and got a good chunk painted of the modded DZ April head. I had a lot of fun with these guys, though my eyes were ready to pop out working on the Apple Biki head. It's just so tiny... I also have some WIP shots of the DZ April head. I was originally trying to match her to her default face up, but that quickly proved to be too difficult with just pastels. I valiantly tried for over an hour, before I gave up and just went to town on the head. She is a fantasy character anyway. Basically what I did was mod her eyes to dreaming (first mod I've done like that), I just now need to learn how to use my airbrush so I can colormatch the apoxie sculpt parts to the skin tone better. Oh well, I'll do that next time... The head is no where near done with the paint job.
In other news, the pipe burst in our wall again flooding half the living room this time. We also have a new hole in the wall from that. Hopefully this time when they fix it they won't need to punch another hole in. I blushed my reject pair today. I'm quite happy with the outcome! I wanted them to match my LTF elf chiwoo named Diuris for the orchid on her face. I pretty much used the same colors as for her flower for her wings. Here you can see a side view to show Diruis's face. She's a little demon flower fairy, or something. Mainly she likes being pretty.
There we go! I cleaned up all three pairs now that I've cast. One I'm never selling/giving away because it was the first one and has stunted talons. The other two I might be willing to part with, but not yet. I first want to paint them all pretty! Here you can see that I stuck them on three different sized dolls for size comparisons. I originally intended them for YoSDs, but they work great on MSD too. A little small on the SD though. I should be able to paint them on Thursday if the weather permits. I know it won't tomorrow, too humid and gross, unless I go to college and do it there. Hmm...
I finally finished working on my girlfriend's doll. She got her hooves blushed yesterday, completing her look! I must say, she looks absolutely great! Onto the pictures! She is the most hybrided doll in the household. She's a Fairyland LTF Dark Elf Soo with Daisy Dayes hooves, a Soom Beyla tail, Leekeworld small goral horns and Fairyland wings. That makes 4 companies that she's made of. Once my wings get cast (which should be this weekend) she might become 5 companies!
Today the weather finally allowed me to work at home, so what did I do? I blushed some LTF wings! I think they turned out quite nice with the over all color scheme of the doll. I was asked by the owner to make the long feathers sparkly and glossy like the horns. And here we have the "owner" of the wings. She got her face up redone as well since it got damaged in the move and I couldn't fix it...
On Friday I worked for a good four hours straight on strictly painting dolls. Sadly I was so tired by the end that I hated one of the face ups and wiped it rather quickly without taking pictures of it. The other two were about 90% done. Today I sat down and finished my two commission heads and redid the third face up. It is much cuter now. Onto the pictures! Either way, I'm quite pleased with myself at this point. I will soon take better pictures of these face ups and added them to the Example gallery.
Slowly but surely I've been working on some wings to market and sell for BJDs. I'm currently still at the prototype stage, but I'm slowly getting there. I've made the magnets fit at this point and the wings no longer droop when put on the doll through clothing. Now I just need 8mm x1mm N50 magnets to stick under clothing so that the wings will stay in place!
I can hardly wait to make molds and cast them! I'm so excited at this point!! |
