I have good news this rainy last day of September. I have pretty much caught up with all my outstanding commissions, to the point I finally feel ready to take on more work. I haven't been commission-less these past couple of months, taken on some here and there. I admit I was dealing with some creative burnout, but I am finally getting back on track.
So this FYI's TL;DR is that I am reopening commissions this coming week!
I am aiming for opening slots on Wednesday October 5th, 2022.
Important to mention is that I can only take on heads and mani/pedicures this round as I have two full body commissions on me right now that recently arrived, and to prevent a heavy backlog I want to limit how many body blushes I do a round. Thank you for understanding!
Now that that's out of the way, I have a lot of new work to show! I got a Birdcube Lipu head and bunny ears, a Dream Valley Bustet body, a Dream Valley Rita, an Autumn Goblin Tales Mossling (all 5 faceplates and the body), as well as a Smart Doll Chaos V01 to show off. Without further ado, onto some pictures under the break!
First up is the Birdcube Lipu head in white skin I painted for a dear friend of mine. They asked me to paint her like a rainbow nebula, which was a lot of fun! It really pushed me outside of my usual comfort-zone of colors. I was given artist choice for the execution of the idea and the rest of the elements. So she got fluffy eyebrows, and anime eye detailing.
I'm not very skilled in anime/manga styled faceups, but I like how she turned out! I also designed and made the eyes myself with acrylic eye bases in 18mm. I really need to get a better printer for the small details like I put into the eyes, but I digress...
Next up is a Dream Valley Bustet fantasy kitty-taur body in the original old tan skin, which is really really orange. The client asked me to paint the body like one of their cats, which I was happy to do. I used acrylics for the white as it would have taken me way too long to get the white pastel opaque enough to show as boldly. I can't wait to see owner pics of this cutie all put together!
Following that, is the Dream Valley Rita in purple skin, who really was a lot of fun to work on in a monochromatic scheme! Freckles, black lips, smeared mascara.... what's not to love? Silly me almost forgot the freckles on the faceup, but luckily I noticed before I got to detailing, so I was able to add them. Definitely a good addition. I already have an owner picture of her in the Owner gallery!
To continue onward, is the Goblin Tales Mossling in Autumn colors with all 5 faceplates in orange skin along with the dark tan skin body. It's been a hot minute since I painted a Mossling, as this is only the third one I've painted. I have painted a lot of the baby ones (I did paint one more before I finished this Mossling), but the adult Mosslings are a different challenge.
I added a ton of sparkles to this little cutie, especially around the Butterfly. I can hardly wait for owner pictures to pop up!
Since I mentioned painting a Baby Mossling, I should share him the cutie too.
I sadly do not have any "proper" documentation shots as I returned him to the birthday boy as soon as I was done. But it's not a big deal. I got finished shots of him in my hand. His name is "Senf Jr", which literally translates to "Mustard Jr". I was given full artist choice, so he got a little crown, and he's been renamed "König Senf" aka "King Mustard". Teens and kids sometimes have the funniest ideas (this little baby Mossling belongs to the same teen as the one with the yogurt cup)!
And finally, last but certainly not least, is the Smart Doll Chaos V01 head in cocoa skin. I had to trim off the pour cone from the casting process, which was a first for me, but it went well!
The headcap fits snug, and I blushed the character accurate haircut onto the whole head too as the doll will not be getting a wig. It was extra work, and my desk was an icky shade of grey upon completion, but I am happy with the results.
Also she is officially my 551st completed faceup! I reached my goal for this year, now to reach my stretch goal of doing 50 completed faceups this calender year (I'm at 41, so only 9 more!) which shouldn't be too difficult. The last two years (38 in 2020 and 30 in 2021) I did way less faceups a year than I used to previous years (I averaged 55 faceups a year from 2013-2019). So it's nice to be on an upswing again, feels good.
Since I already wrote the FYI before the read more break, I can end this post here. Keep an eye on the site as I will post there (and on Insta/FB) when I reopen slots on Wednesday this coming week. Until next time!
