I'm finally on a roll again and have more new work to show! This time I do have documentation of the Fairyland RealFee Sira, along with a Volks DD Estel Freesia and a Luts SSDF Summer Event 2016 head. Today I'm hoping to work on some more face ups as well! Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up is the Fairyland RealFee Sira in natural skin. She's got such a cute little mischievous face! Now just to get some owner pictures of her, she's got the cutest little orange mohair wig. Then next up we have the Volks DD Estel Freesia head in normal skin I think. Poor gal is a little stained along the top of her head from what I think a wig. She also came with a face up which took quite a bit of elbow grease to remove. I did not do the ear mod, a previous artist did. Then here we have the Luts SSDF Summer Event 2016 head in normal skin. Smoky eyes are always an interesting challenge for me, but I think I did a decent job with it! He still needs some applied eyelashes, but otherwise he's done.
Until next time!

I got some new work to show after a crazy busy work week. I painted my wife's Fairyland RealFee Mari's open and sleeping plates this week, which turned out to be a little more tedious than anticipated. Either way, we're both happy with the end result and she's done! Without further ado, onto some pictures! The theme was feathers as this girl is on the Fairyland Hippogriff Rus body, so the face up had to be tied back to it. I need to poke my wife to take some good pictures of her now that she's painted. I had to work on both faces at the same time to keep them close enough. Gluing the eyelashes onto the sleeping plate was a nightmare. I was ready to chuck the faceplate across the room, but I refrained. Either way, she's done! I'll end this post with a quick picture of her on her body. Until next time!
Oh man, with my new work schedule (that still changes from week to week after heaving a steady set schedule for over a year) has been really cutting into my face up time. I will get my last few commissions done though, I'll just have to do some time juggling! Anyway, this weekend I completed an Iplehouse YID Erica and another Fairyland LTF Rolly VE with an eye opening mod. First up is the Iplehouse YID Erica in special real skin. She was a lot of fun to work on to give her an icy look. Sorry for the third image being blurry, I'd already packed up the head so I couldn't retake that one. Then we have a dear friend's Fairyland LTF Rolly VE in natural skin. Her eyes were already opened by a previous artist, but I opened and shaped them a little more to make her less sleepy looking. I was asked to match her eyebrows and eyelashes to her wig, and give her blue eyeliner along with light freckles. This is at least her 3rd face up, I'm the third artist to work on her. Here's a before and after of her last face up by another artist that sadly chipped. She made a character change, hence why she needed a new look anyway! Eye opening mods with existing eyewells are a lot less intimidating than I thought they'd be. Before this I've done an eye closing mod, which wasn't too difficult either. It's kind of entertaining how I'm branching out into modding.
I'm expecting another face up to do for the same client/friend that the Rolly belongs to, as another one of her doll's face up chipped. She always has such fun concepts for me to work off of! Either way, that's it for now, until next time! I'm on a roll! I finished up a two part commission this morning (just needed gloss and eyelashes), I already had the first face up done on the 23rd, so I just needed to do the second face up which I did yesterday. This time I worked on a Fairyland RealFee Mari in natural skin, who is such a cute sculpt! I'm so glad I've gotten to work on one, definitely a cutie. The client asked for scales on her and lots of blue! Without further ado, onto some pictures! I always love doing lips with some fantasy aspects on them, like the blue corners and edges. It just adds a little something! Also I did my first serious neck mod for one of the commissions I'm working on. It's an Iplehouse SID torso that needed the neck slimmed by over a centimeter to fit a Dollclans Vezeto head. The head will be colormatched! I need to give him one more good sanding session to buff out the marks, but otherwise the fit is good now! He has excellent mobility.
Now for the FYi: I am expecting 2 more packages for face up work, the majority is here. I'm closing up commissions again for the time being until I make a serious dent into everything I got to do! I'll post a blog post once I'm ready to take on more commissions again. My hours are increasing at my job so I'm going to have to get creative with my time management. I'm slowly getting used to face upping in the afternoon (my best working time is morning), which is great as I usually work mornings. Either way, thanks for sticking with me everyone! That's it for now, until next time! I'm back in the groove for commission work again! This past week I whipped up a face up on a Fairyland RealFee Haru in natural skin. The client asked me to put a Celtic knot on her forehead, which was a fun challenge for me! Without further ado, some pictures! She has a really cute little bird like nose, it's quite adorable! It took me like 2-3 tries to get the Celtic knot good, because I wasn't entirely sure how to do it. Finally I just painted it on with pastels and then went over it with watercolor paint just to erase the pastels again.
The next one up for this client is a RealFee Mari, who's going to have scales! I love doing scales, it's always so much fun! After these last heads arrive, I'm going to close up for the time being just to get through them all. I do keep my waitlist open though! I managed to finish up working on a manicure and tattoo job on a Fairyland MNF arm and #6 hands. I was given free reign with the tattoo as long as it was henna-looking, but the design was completely up to me. I had a lot of fun with it and added a small ring to the other hand. Without further ado, let's get some pictures! Here's first some details of the manicure and ring mod I did on the hands. I had a lot of fun with both, the ring mod was very easy and fun to do. This is actually the first time I've ever worked on MNF hands, and I even used to own one! I'm silly I know, but generally I don't really blush my own dolls hands or bodies. Then finally here are the detail shots of the henna tattoo I did on the right arm and hand. I can't wait to see this on the doll! Fortunately I do know I will as the client is a friend of mine and I love seeing her dolls!
I also started working on the Doll Chateau Larry and am almost done with the Doll Chateau Jakov. I just have to deepen the color on his wings and the Larry I had to stop working on as it started to rain so I couldn't seal. The bane of a face up artist, the unfavorable weather! Anyway, that's all from me for now! Have a lovely rest of your weekend guys! I hope everyone in the US had a good Memorial Day on Monday! I sure did. I managed to do two face ups this past weekend, one on a Supia Doll Hael, and the other was on a Fairyland MNF WooSoo. For the Hael I also painted a little heart along her bust, but no blushing as the owner asked me not to. Anyway, onto some pictures! First up, the Supia Hael in normal skin. I'm really proud of this face up as I feel I'm getting better at smokey eyes! Then we have the Fairyland MNF WooSoo in natural skin. He's an old boy from 2009 and is in the old natural skin that is also yellowed at this point due to age. He's still a lovely one regardless!
Oh! If you haven't yet, go over to the Owner Pictures, I got some new ones sent my way from past clients and they are oh so cute to see put together! That's all from me for now, until next time! Technically I finished the face up yesterday, but didn't get around to posting it. I started it on Tuesday evening, and finished it up Wednesday morning. I was given artist's choice with this one. She's a Fairyland MNF R.A. event head from the Fairy Line release. The weather's been gorgeous here so I can work anytime on face ups! Without further ado, let's get to the pictures! The head belongs to a good friend of mine, and she wanted me to do whatever I felt like doing with the face up. The first thing I did was do freckles as I know she loves them on dolls. I sent her progress photos, but she hasn't responded yet to the final pictures yet. Soon I hope!
I knew I wanted to do a fantasy face up again since I've mostly been doing natural or basic face ups lately. Nothing wrong with those of course, but sometimes I just get the itchy for fantasy swirls! This week has been busy at work. Normally I just work part time, but this week my schedule's been shifted a little. On Monday instead of opening I closed, and Wednesday I worked an extra two hours, and today I do a full 8 hour shift as one of my fellow receptionists is ill and I don't mind covering for her. I also got the new website for work up and running, and am helping to maintain it along with the FB page. It's a lot of work, but also a lot of fun! Anyway, I should stop blathering now. Have a great day everyone! I was finally able to do a new face up yesterday on a Fairyland PukiPuki ChiChi in natural skin. He's such an angry tiny little face. It's always fun for me to work on the tinies even if sometimes I feel like my eyes are going to pop out of my head. Hooray for hyper close up vision (I'm very near sighted)! Anyway, onto some pictures! He really is minuscule! When I looked up the sculpt on Flickr I learned that he often comes with a rude hand, which I think is adorably offensive. The tiny skull on the cheek is actually painted by me, and is very tiny, no bigger than 2.5mm at best. I was amazed that my hands were steady enough for it! Such a smol head next to a US quarter, just to give an idea of how tiny he really is.
I got a good start on the 3 part commission I took on (Fairyland MNF Mirwen, Souldoll Tiffee, and Souldoll Johnny), I did do all 3 face ups, but I have to redo one. The Souldoll Tiffee and Fairyland MNF Mirwen are done and approved, just the Souldoll Johnny needs a redo now. Unfortunately I caught my wife's plague (cold) so I'm a bit out of commission at the moment. I'm still going to work (probably a dumb idea, but I need the paycheck), so by the time the afternoon rolls around I just want to rest. Anyway, onto some pictures! First up is the Souldoll Tiffee in normal skin. She's an old gal who needed a cleaning before I could work on her. I couldn't get all of her old face up out of her lip crevice so I covered it with the new face up best I could. Then here we have the Fairyland MNF Mirwen in natural skin. He's the twin brother of the Souldoll Tiffee, hence why they have such similar face ups.
I'm not going to post the Souldoll Johnny pictures because I'm going to completely redo him anyway. That's all from me for now. Hopefully I'll have something new to post soon! It was a busy weekend for me! I did 2 face ups, not quite as many as I hoped to do, but I had friends come over so my time was a little limited, but I still dented my commission list and even did one for myself! First up we have a Fairyland MNF Luka in natural skin with light freckles, light cat's eyeliner, but otherwise natural. I'm really proud of her eyelashes. She's also my 220th face up to date! Then here we have one I did for myself on my new girl, a Dollzone Moon in normal yellow skin. I wanted her to be mostly natural looking with some light fantasy aspects, such as the scales along her eyes. She is a dragon after all. I made the eyes myself, along with her wig. Here she is all put together! I still need to take some pictures of her in actual daylight. Soon!
January 2016 was a good month for doing face ups, I did a 6 face ups! That is quite a bit considering I couldn't do any for about 1-2 weeks at one point because of scheduling conflicts with my jobs. This week I'm hoping to tackle the 3 part commission I got and get that one done too. If I can't do it before the weekend not the end of the world, but I'll try regardless! I feel like I'm on a roll! After not being able to face up for about 2 weeks due to working extra hours and the weather being abysmal, I was finally about to produce two face ups for a friend of mine and her sister. Both required a cleaning before I could work on them, but that's not a big deal to me usually Anyway, onto some pictures! First up is my friends Fairyland MNF Juri 2011, who is very rare, and even rarer to find unmodded! Getting her old face up off was a nightmare, even with the Winsow & Newton brush cleaner it took me forever to get her clean. Either way, she is clean, washed, sealed, and repainted. My friend loves the way she turned out! My directions were to make her look happy, pink lips, brown eyebrows, freckles on the nose and cheeks, and black eyelashes. I'm super happy too with the result! I'm also including a quick before and after picture of her, just to show how different she looks after my handiwork. The old face up definitely wasn't bad or mediocre, it just wasn't what the new owner (my friend) wanted. Then here we have my friend's sister's doll, a Fairyland MNF Mirwen in natural skin. I was asked for dark eyes, dark lips, and loooong eye lashes along with a beauty mark under her eye, didn't matter which side. She was fun to work on since she didn't want her looking angry or sad, which is often hard to do with how the Mirwen brow bone is sculpted. I didn't have her eyes on me (she has green eyes and I didn't have any in her size in my jar), so I put some amber ones in her. I also did a before and after shot of her too. I also love seeing how different dolls look painted by different artists. It's always so amazing to me! That's all for now for face ups. Soon I will make a blog post about 2015 in review. I have the image ready and my thoughts gathered, I just haven't had the time yet to write it all up and post it! Stay tuned!
I took some time to myself today and repainted Aurora, my Fairyland LTF Juri 2013. Her last face up has bothered me ever since I put it on her. I'm still not 100% satisfied with it (the eyelashes are a little too strong I think), but she'll keep this one for a while I think. I'm much happier with this scale pattern than the ones along the eyebrows I did last time. She's a little dragon girl, so she had to have something fantastical on her face. Overall I'm pleased with the end result.
I finished up the last face up that I started on August 8th, 2015. I experimented a little with it and it ended up being very very sparkly... Not that that's a bad thing, but I'm still trying to decide if I like it or not. Fortunately it's on one of my own dolls, so I can always redo it later. Anyway, the sculpt is a Fairyland LTF Juri 2013 that I received in a trade with a customer (who is a total sweetheart by the way). She promptly stole my Chiwoo Elf Girl's body, so I may end up selling those FP's as I already sold a few others of my dolls. On to some pictures! I went a little overboard with my shimmer powder (I mixed it into gloss and the sealed it down again to get rid of the shine and just keep the shimmer), which is why I'm not sure if I like it or not. I wish I hadn't put them onto her eyelashes because I loved how those had turned out. Oh well. I'll give the face up a few days and see if I figure out whether I like it or not! I actually finished the face up yesterday in the afternoon. I would have done more work this morning, but it was raining and I didn't have time to get to my back up place to face up on rainy/humid days. Still need to finish another part of a commission by Sunday. It'll be a little tricky as I work 6 days this week (Monday - Saturday), but I will manage it!
Yesterday was a busy day for me! I worked on 3 heads, of which I completed 2 and the third is about halfway done. The top two are done, the bottom one is not but it's too humid this morning to face up and my back up place (old college) isn't open 'til noon today. That's where I was yesterday too, but after working from 9am to 3pm I realized I was very very hungry, so I had to stop for the day. This one is a Garden of Dolls Narah in light tan/coffee skin. It was interesting working on a sculpt with such prominent lips. I was asked to make her eyes look bigger and to give her freckles, the rest was up to me. She's a fawn and I'll be working on her body soon as well, just need to blush the hooves! I also realized when I was editing the pictures that she's derp eyed... oops! Then here we have another Resinsoul Mei, but this time in fleshtone and with a natural face up. Now I just need to restring her body as she's very floppy. It's kind of funny how both completed face ups from yesterday ended up with freckles.
Hopefully soon I'll be able to finish my own Fairyland LTF Juri 2013 faceplate (which I started yesterday). She's going to be a little half dragon girl and will be super cute (I hope) once done. That's all for now! |
