As the title says, only 2 days remain to partake in the Birthday Sale! Buy one service, get another at 30% off! Also I managed to crank out another commission, this time I repainted a Fairyland PukiFee Luna in tan skin. I matched her eyebrows and eyelashes to her wig, she turned out darling if I may say so. Without further ado, onto some pictures! The wig is a short little curly thing that is absolutely adorable, but I sadly don't have any pictures of it placed against her faceplate with the finished face up. I wasn't sent her eyes so I used the only pair I had in my jar that fit her eye-wells. In other news, I'm nearly completion with the Crobidoll Daydream Lance commission. His torso is mostly blushed, and his hands and feet are also just about done. Next come his arms and legs! No pictures currently as I'd only have some cell phone shots and they really don't show things well.
That's all from me for now, until next time!

It's been a bit since I've last face upped, but I finally have some new work to show! This time I painted a Fairyland MNF Shushu in natural skin and even gave her a fresh manicure as her last was a nightmare to remove. Without further ado, onto some pictures! So here she is, she's gonna be styled as a pastel goth once back in my friend's hands. I had a lot of fun with brows making them so bushy and big, usually I do more delicate ones but her previous face up had bold brows too so I ran with it. And once again, lovely ombre lips of black and purple! One of my favorite color combinations for sure. She does have painted lip lines, they are just hard to see in the pictures from the gloss. The hands were fun too, I gave the ring-fingers an accent nail color to tie back into the face up colors. Also, my sale is still going. Heads/Parts do need to be ready to be sent my way, so please keep that in mind when contacting me for the "Buy 1, Get 1 30% Off" offer! Please don't hesitate to reach out for a commission, now is an excellent time to do so, there's very little that I'm unwilling to do customization-wise!
Until next time! Cranked out a couple more face ups this week, one on a Fairyland MNF Momo and the other on my own Resinsoul Ai. I finally reached 400 completed face ups since I started painting dolls in August/September of 2011! The MNF Momo was a commission from a dear local friend, and the Resinsoul Ai is one of my own. Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up we have the Fairyland MNF Momo in natural skin. She belongs to a dear friend of mine, who also asked me to make her some eyes. I let them pick the color (lavender) and made them with acrylic bases in 12mm. 14mm eyes were far too big and her original eyes were also way too dark. She had come to me with a Default face up (and too big eyes), but my friend wanted her to be a lot more pink. The default face up was very pretty, but not exactly flattering, especially how they did her mouth. And here we have my Resinsoul Ai in fleshtone skin from 2011 named Zephyra. This face up is very special as it is my 400th! I finally reached this wonderful milestone, and to celebrate it I repainted Zephyra. It's tradition for me to repaint her every 99 face ups to be the next 100th. I always keep the theme the same, so that I can track my improvement better. Hard to believe that it only took 2 years to paint 99 face ups (and a bunch of fantasy and body parts) to get here. She's gone through so many face ups, only doll with that many in my collection is Val (Dollzone Chen), who I think I've also painted 5 times. I'll need to check at some point to see. Again, for this face up I used Citadel Munitorum Varnish for sealant, and I'm still having difficulties with it. It has a lot less tooth than MSC, so I had to layer quite a bit more than I usually do. But, shimmer shows up much better post-sealing with this sealant. MSC likes to pretty much dull it away unless I paint it on. Reaching 400 face ups also means that I can share my monster collage again. On my computer it's all one very long image file, but I broke it apart here so it's easier to zoom in and look at the face ups.
Man... I started this collage when I reached 50 face ups, that's why the first image was really.... diverse in backgrounds. I eventually figured out that keeping the same background is a better idea for unity! It also wasn't until last year that I got a photo light box to take pictures in. My documentation pictures definitely improved once I acquired one of those. Still learning how to set my camera for it so I don't have to do as much post-photo color and lighting corrections. That is all from me for today, until next time! I managed to crank out this weekend another commission, this time it was artist choice. The head is a Fairyland Feeple60 Chloe, the first Fairyland Chloe I've ever worked on. I've always joked that I'm not popular enough to paint one as I've literally never been commissioned to paint one. The sculpt is very doe-eyed and has lips for days. Without further ado, onto some pictures! I'm usually hesitant to do artist choice, because the possibilities seem so endless, and I always have the worry of "will the client like this???", but it went well with this one as the client owns several heads they just like to go wild on. I've always wanted to do another butterfly wing along the eyes face up, as the first one I did was more like fiery wings than specifically butterfly ones.
Her ears were already pierced, so I put hoops in with little stars dangling from them. I think it's a cute touch! Now I just need to pack her up and get a shipping estimate back to the client. I'm still open for commissions! My slots are not even half filled currently, so if you'd like one of my face ups on your dears, please don't hesitate to contact me! That's all from me for now, until next time! While waiting on my last commission to arrive from this batch, I decided to repaint my Fairyland LTF Juri 2013 in natural skin. My wife gifted me for Christmas a second Juri2013 faceplate, that I modded to dreaming. I'm a sucker for having dolls with open and sleepy eyed looks. I was always sad that I would never be able to get that a dreaming/sleeping head for Aurora (my LTF Juri 2013) because she's an event faceplate. Then I realised I can mod! Anyway, without further ado, onto some pictures! I've been meaning to repaint Aurora for months, but I had to wait for her second faceplate to arrive so I could work on them together to keep them as close as possible. The first thing I did of course was mod the second faceplate from open to dreaming, which was a task and a half in itself. This is only my second time closing eyes. I don't do mods often, but I do enjoy them to be honest! I still need to paint her horns and wings, as well as possibly blush her little paws, before I can call her done again. She used to be purple themed, but I felt as a princess gold would be a much better color scheme for her! Her previous face up was a good 3 years old. It's kind of fun to see how much I've improved in just a couple of years! My eyebrows have definitely improved by leaps and bounds, as well as my painted eyelashes.
It's kind of funny, I'm looking forward to redoing my Resinsoul Ai (Zephyra) as I'm 4 face ups away from reaching 400 completed face ups. Zephyra always has to be the 100th face up, no matter how many heads I have laying around. It's tradition to see how much I've improved in 99 face ups since the last time I painted her. Anyway, that's all from me for now, until next time! Once again, I've been a busy busy bee with face up work. I've just about finished everything I have on me, other than the DF-A BoBo and the Little Rebel Andre as the owner is waiting on his body to see if he needs a color match in the face! Things I painted the past few days are: Notdoll Ligaya, Mystic Kids Evelyn, Fairyland PukiPuki Mary, and again my Dollzone Daomiao-2 because she chipped her face up due to my rough handling of her. Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up is the Notdoll Ligaya in crystal rose skin rocking a goth look with dark blue lips. This gal's head is massive, and requires at least 18-20mm eyes. I didn't have anything in those sizes (other than some demon eyes in 18mm), so she got some grey 16mm eyes put in. It's rare that I get to do gothic face ups, I mostly get to do natural or fantasy. Despite that, I still enjoy doing darker face ups too! Then next up is another goth beauty, this time a Mystic Kids Evelyn in normal pink skin. She was tough to get clean because I swear her old eyelashes had been superglued in place. I could not get them off, not even with isopropyl alcohol! I finally had to scrape them off with a pin and rip them out with tweezers. Good thing they were already heavily damaged so I didn't feel bad ripping them further apart. This little thing is a Fairyland PukiPuki Mary in natural skin. I was given free reign with her, so she got a fantasy face up! Glittery blue make up, but otherwise naturally blushed. I need to secure her wig better too. She belongs to the same client as the Mystic Kids Evelyn. Last, but not least, is the redo face up on my Dollzone Daomiao-2 in normal pink skin. I'm actually much more satisfied with this face up than the last one. Just kind of annoying that I had to repaint her so quickly... Either way, she's a cute little thing, being the tallest of my YoSDs.
I'm still open for commissions as most that I've done these last two weeks are already back with their owners! I still need to restring the Mystic Kids Evelyn, but then she and the PukiPuki are ready to return home to their owner. I am expecting one more commission from the USA, which'll be a fun one to work on! It's been a while since I've updated the site, so I cleaned up the example gallery a little, removing older face ups to keep the rest more up to date to my current skill level. I also repainted my Fairyland LTF Dark Elf Soo in tan skin because her old face up had bothered me for a while... I'll get to the FYI after the face up pictures. Here's my little cutie! I actually had to start over 2/3 of the way through the face up because I hated how her blushing was coming out. It looked like she'd gotten sunburnt! But that is a shame that I did not document with photos, so let's just sweep that failure under the rug to be forgotten forever. Here's the comparison of her previous to current face up. I've owned her since 2013 I think (got her secondhand), and her last face up was on her for a good 4 years, so it was time to redo it. What was entertaining was that she has yellowed in that time, except under her old eyebrows. I'm not the most careful with my own dolls, but commissions I treat with waaaay more respect than my own because I don't care if my dolls yellow. But I don't want to do that to a client's doll!
Anyway, onto the FYI: I'm closing new commissions for the moment because I have so many multipart ones incoming that I want to devote my time to. I'd rather keep my turn around time as it is while I'm looking for a full time job here again. I will make a blog post and update the landing page of my site when I'm ready to take on more again! That is all for now, until next time! I'm on a roll! I finished another part of the commission, this time I painted a Fairyland Feeple60 Halloween 2017 event head in natural skin. This one had a fun theme, an ice harpy! This is also my first Feeple60 head I've painted. I've painted tons of Minifees so far, but none of the bigger girls yet. Anyway, onto some pictures! Here she is! I'm really happy with the feathers around her eyes. I originally tried to paint them, but it looked too... bold. So I wiped them away and did it with several layers of pastels instead. I like the softer look much more for this. Also I did ombre lips as I love the look of them. I still dislike doing white eyebrows, but I'm happy with how these came out. I added lots of shimmer to the eyes and mixed it into the gloss for the lips to really pop them.
Now I only have one more head to paint for this client and I can send their doll and 3 extra heads back. It's been a fun so far! I love doing fantasy face ups, like a lot. I feel like I can really push myself with them creatively. That's all from me for now, until next time! Despite having caught some sort of crud, I managed to be somewhat productive. I've been sick a week now, but I think I'm on the mend! Either way, I finally was able to document the Fairyland LTF Wings this past week, and I painted my wife's Flower & Junior Mizi.W head!
I also got a large order of eyelashes in from Taobao so that's great too. I can't wait to use some of them! I got 10 pairs of black, 10 pairs of brown, 8 pairs of white, 6 pairs of blue, yellow, and purple, and 4 pairs of bright red. These should last me a while! Without further ado, onto some pictures under the read more break. I had a very productive Saturday yesterday, I did 3 face ups from start to finish! I painted a HZ Wang-Ye in tan skin, a Fairyland MNF RFA event head in natural skin, and a Resinsoul Rong head in white skin. The two MSD sized heads were from one client, and the Wang-Ye was from another. I have one more doll to do for that client and everyone can go home! Anyway, without further ado, onto some pictures! First up is the HZ Wang-Ye, or as the client calls him "Mr. Angry-Face". He came with a face up already which the client wanted me to redo with more anger in the brows. Before he kinda just looked like "Meh", now he's full on rage! Figuring out the blushing palette was interesting as his resin is kind of translucent. Here's his before and after image. The client asked me to keep the designs as close as possible like on the first face up, but with some small modifications. He's definitely an angry doll! Next up are the two MSD sized heads for a different client! I always love working on their dolls. First up is the Fairyland MNF RFA event head in natural skin. With this face up I was asked for freckles along the cheeks and nose, natural blushing and make up. I always love doing freckles, pity hardly any of my dolls have them! Then last, but certainly not least, is the Resinsoul Rong in white skin. She's a woodland sprite/nymph and I was asked to keep her color scheme in tune with that, but otherwise I had a lot of freedom. She was oddly yellowed in the face, which is really strange as she's been in a bag since the client dropped her off with me. I managed to cover it with the face up at least!
That's all for now, until next time! I had a productive weekend, I got two commission face ups done! Now to get through all the others! But that'll have to wait as I'll be leaving for New York for a few days on Wednesday and need to prep a few more things. But anyway, I painted a Nefer Kane Mini-Lynn and a Fairyland LTF Rose. Onto some pictures! First up is the Nefer Kane Mini-Lynn I painted for a repeat client who I greatly enjoy working with. They asked me to make the blushing subtle, but with a childlike innocent expression. The head is also minuscule! A little bigger than a US quarter. It's always an interesting challenge for me to paint details on heads that small, but I did it! And the client is happy too, so success! Then here we have the second face up I finished this weekend on the Fairyland LTF Rose in natural skin. This face up was artist choice, with the only instructions being to keep towards a cool toned color palette. I had a lot of fun with the swirls. It's not often I get to do an artist choice, I always get nervous about them because I'm not sure if the client will like it. Fortunately they liked it a lot! I hoped they would as they are a repeat client and friend as well!
I can't wait to see owner pictures of both of these! I always love owner pictures, I don't get nearly enough owner pictures from clients sent my way to display on my website. Yes, this is a subtle plea to those I've painted dolls for to send me pictures! I like to display them with credit to the their respective owners. Now for the FYI: My wife and I are heading to New York this upcoming week to go to the Austrian embassy to submit her application for a residency permit. Things are rolling towards the big move. I'll be sad to leave as this has been my home for 17 years, but I think it'll be a grand adventure and a good change. That means also that I won't be able to get much done doll wise this week. We'll be gone from Wednesday to Saturday. We're staying with a friend of hers that lives there. Oh, also my birthday is coming up, in less than two weeks! I'm turning 28, so strange to think back to where I was 10 years ago. Not EVER going back to that, haha! I like who I am now, even if I haven't quite found my place in the world yet. At least I found a passion I haven't burnt out on or lost! Until next time! I finally got some more work done this week! I finished up the Fairyland MNF Rohan for the same client as the Impldoll Martin, and then I took some time to paint one of my own dolls that I had just recently received. She's an April Story Betty on the new SD16 body. Anyway, onto some pictures! First up is the Fairyland MNF Rohan in tan skin. She's meant to be a snow queen. I was given a ton of references as a mood board and I took it from there. The client loves how she looks. I just wish I could get a good shot of how nicely the lips and eyes shimmer between blue and purple. Pictures just do the work no justice... I'm excited to see some owner pictures! And then here's my April Story Betty in normal skin. I got her secondhand and she's got a bright blue wig, so blue eyebrows and lashes were a must! Also the scar was necessary too (fell on her face as a child in some gravel trying to skateboard). I'm not entirely happy with the eyelashes, but for now the face up can stay so she's not blank. I'm over all pleased with the face up. Quick picture of her put together. I need to trim the bangs on the wig and thin the volume out in the back. It's ridiculously fluffy, but I love the color. She also stole my Skullery necklace. Why are my dolls such thieves??
Anyway, until next time! We're supposed to get snow tomorrow, so we'll have to see if I get anymore face ups done! I managed to finish up the two face ups from the last post, and the body/fantasy blush for the Doll Chateau Jakov. The Fairyland PukiFee Halloween event faceplate only needed gloss as he was pretty much done. The Jakov needed his lips tweaked, gloss, and his body and fantasy parts blushed. Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up is the Fairyland PukiFee Halloween event faceplate from a year or so ago. He's got a certain charm about him! The client asked for natural blush and freckles. Then we have the Doll Chateau Jakov in white skin, who is a little imp/demon boy. I've worked on one before, but he had a very different theme from this one! I always love how different owners style the same sculpts. I'm rather proud of the wings and tail as I did that all with pastels. One day I may learn to use an airbrush, but for now, pastels and brush work well for me! I will end this post with a full body picture of the Jakov all put together. I can't wait to see what the owner will do with him and the Halloween faceplate!
I have some new work to show from the weekend, but it's still very much WIP. I started on a Fairyland PKF Halloween Event face plate from a year or so ago, and on another Doll Chateau Jakov. The PKF is almost done, the Jakov's face I have to tweak a little and start on the body/fantasy blushing. The PKF just needs gloss now, while the Jakov needs his lips redone, which shouldn't be too big of a task. I love how different both of these look from the previous times I've worked on these sculpts.
My work schedule has been crazy again this week as one of our closing receptionists quit on the spot, so we're trying to figure out the coverage for those two days as there's only two of us who can work then, and we're both openers. We'll figure it out until someone new gets hired and trained in. Anyway, until next time! I've been a busy bee this past week with work, but I managed to get some new face ups and the such done! I'm hoping to work on even more today since it's the butt crack of dawn still, the whole day is still ahead of me! Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up is a friend's Fairyland MNF Rendia in tan skin. She is a sea witch, and I was given free reign on the lips, so I did a sea green fade. I felt natural lips would be a little bland. I always love working on this color resin, even if blushing sometimes is challenging. It's not often I get to apply piercings to dolls despite having all the resources for it. I also did a comparison to her default face up. It wasn't a bad face up at all, but I do feel that Fairyland put the eyebrows waaaay too high on it. My friend had added the piercings herself, which I copied over into the custom face up. Next up is the finally completed Doll Chateau Jakov for another friend. He was pretty much done, I just had to finish up his wings. He's a David Bowie tribute doll and is finally on his way back home to his owner. Safe travels, friend! This one is a Luts Senior Delf Isabella in tan skin. It is such a lovely color! I need to work back into her lips a little more and give them more definition. She's also getting a full body blush with freckles plus a french manicure. I'm hoping to work on that today in the afternoon!
That's all for now my friends, until next time! |
