Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog here. Got a couple of things to show off, along with a very important FYI.
The FYI is that I have lowered my faceup prices. I have hardly been getting any commissions since I raised them at the end of last year, so I took it as a valuable lesson to not charge that much. I am keeping the body blushing prices the same, because those use up a lot more materials than a faceup, and generally are a more complex preparation undertaking. Now that that's been covered, the work I completed in March were a full spa package for a Dream Valley Olivia, her body, and fantasy parts, and two faceups for myself on my Doll Chateau Elizabeth and Snow Nymph. Without further ado, onto some pictures under the break!

The weather has been a rollercoaster here, so working on stuff has been difficult. But I do have several things to post today, such as the last faceup of 2020. I haven't been doing so well health-wise, but I am arranging for the help that I need to get back on track with things.
Today I will post my Doll Chateau Elizabeth, a Dollzone Venus Halo, and a Modoll Hide Matsumoto minimee head. Without further ado, onto the pictures under the break! I've had a busy couple of days where I cranked out a couple commissions, and started on another! I cleaned, sueded, restrung, and blushed a Doll Chateau K-01 body, cleaned and face upped another Dollzone Dale (human bodied this time), and modded some fangs onto a Doll Leaves Laura who will get face upped in the next few days! I'm excited to show the new work!
Without further ado, onto some pictures under the cut! I managed to complete another face up this last weekend while also packing up the apartment/our life. We've made great progress in the last 3 days. But anyway, the face up I did was on a Doll Chateau Zora in the old white skin. I was given artist choice, so I used a warm toned color palette. Anyway, onto some pictures! I decided to go with a gold theme for her and mimic the embossing on the body with the painting. I'm rather happy with the outcome! I really like the gold theme I got going here. I didn't paint the body, but the client was fine with that. It would have taken too long. In other news, packing is going well. It took 4 of us 2.5-3 hours to pack up all of my wife's and my dolls. We have 28 dolls between us, of which 12 are SD and larger (from 58cm to 100cm), 6 MSD, 7 YoSD, and 3 tinies. Only one doll is getting to stay out and not travel per shipping container, which is my DC Snow Nymph. She's coming on the plane with me! This is what 28 dolls getting ready for a huge move look like. Three bins, and countless pieces of bubble wrap later and they are all secure and ready to go. Mel looks very smug up there. Our stuff is getting picked up for the shipping container on Friday. We got this!
Until next time! I had a productive Easter weekend where I finally painted my mom's Christmas gift (I had to wait to have some free time) and I painted a spare head of mine for a face up competition on IG. The doll for my mom is a Doll Chateau Larry that I scoured the secondhand market for to find last year after she fell in love with the last one I painted. The IG face up is on my spare Impldoll Azalea head. Anyway, onto some pictures! First up is the DC Larry for my mom. Sadly no wig because I haven't been able ot find one that fits her head. I picked a blue theme because that's my mom's favorite color. She loves how her little snail turned out. Second up is my face up for BJD Face Off on Instagram. I call it the Candy Abomination. We had to submit a blank head and then a theme was announced for the month for us to paint. I just wish that the theme was announced first... It was "Welcome to Candy Land". I'm the first to submit my face up so far.
Anyway, this is my spare Impldoll Azalea elf head I got through the Impldoll FB event. A friend of mine is taking her off of my hands in a trade for some BJD clothes. Oddly the face up is growing on me. Anyway, I should have some new work this week again! Until next time! I had a very productive weekend and managed to finish the Doll Chateau Andre and start on another commission almost finishing it! I got to paint an Aileen Doll Cyclops girl, but she isn't done yet. Waiting to hear from the client on her so I know whether I can continue or if I need to make any changes. The weather was great this weekend so I took advantage of that! Without further ado, onto some pictures! Here are the detail shots of the DC Andre in white skin. He's the brother to the Jakov I painted last time with the black fantasy parts. Doll Chateau has such cute and unique event dolls, even if a lot of them don't pose too well, haha. Then here we have the Aileen Doll Cyclops girl WIP pictures. This is the only second time I've ever done a galaxy themed face up, I'd forgotten how much of a challenge they are, but also a lot of fun!
As mentioned before, I'm waiting to hear from the client to see how she likes the work so far. I'm hoping I won't have to try and do painted eyelashes on her, as every time I tried they looked really odd. So I kept wiping them away again. We will just have to wait and see! I've been back a few days now from vacationing with my wife and in-laws in Florida, and I think I've finally settled back into the groove of things. Work is a bit hectic with it being the new year (we need everything new from the patients), and my hours are still a bit crazy for another few weeks I think. Anyway, I did manage to squeeze out a face up and started work on a massive commission. The face up I did is on a Doll Chateau Andre in white skin, and the other head I started on is a Nobility Doll MNM Bill Kaulitz head. First up is a picture of the DC Andre. All I really have left on his face is gloss, and then I'll blush his body too. I started on that, but I haven't gotten far yet unfortunately. He's the brother of the DC Jakov I painted recently, the one with the black horns and wings! Then here's the Nobility Doll MNM Bill Kaulitz head. So far I've modded his eyes more open and gave her ear gages. That's the first time I've done a mod like that! Took a while to figure out. Finally I just carved into his ear and shoved the eyelet in and sculpted around it. The addition will be color matched as he needs to be color matched in general to a LoongSoul NS body. He's going to be Tom, Bill's brohter, hence why the eye opening mod (they are identical twins but have some differences). I'm planning on face upping my brains out this weekend!
Now for the FYI: I'm going to stay closed until I get through the large part of my commissions. They really piled up and I'm still adjusting to having less time to work on doll stuff. So the commissions have really piled up and I feel awful about that. So I'm going to play catch up. It's also been exceptionally cold here (-2F with a real feel of -19F on average), so getting to working on dolls has been a challenge. Thanks for understanding, you guys are the best! I managed to finish up the two face ups from the last post, and the body/fantasy blush for the Doll Chateau Jakov. The Fairyland PukiFee Halloween event faceplate only needed gloss as he was pretty much done. The Jakov needed his lips tweaked, gloss, and his body and fantasy parts blushed. Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up is the Fairyland PukiFee Halloween event faceplate from a year or so ago. He's got a certain charm about him! The client asked for natural blush and freckles. Then we have the Doll Chateau Jakov in white skin, who is a little imp/demon boy. I've worked on one before, but he had a very different theme from this one! I always love how different owners style the same sculpts. I'm rather proud of the wings and tail as I did that all with pastels. One day I may learn to use an airbrush, but for now, pastels and brush work well for me! I will end this post with a full body picture of the Jakov all put together. I can't wait to see what the owner will do with him and the Halloween faceplate!
I have some new work to show from the weekend, but it's still very much WIP. I started on a Fairyland PKF Halloween Event face plate from a year or so ago, and on another Doll Chateau Jakov. The PKF is almost done, the Jakov's face I have to tweak a little and start on the body/fantasy blushing. The PKF just needs gloss now, while the Jakov needs his lips redone, which shouldn't be too big of a task. I love how different both of these look from the previous times I've worked on these sculpts.
My work schedule has been crazy again this week as one of our closing receptionists quit on the spot, so we're trying to figure out the coverage for those two days as there's only two of us who can work then, and we're both openers. We'll figure it out until someone new gets hired and trained in. Anyway, until next time! I managed to sneak back home for a morning on Saturday and finished up the Doll Chateau Larry I'd been working on for a friend. She asked for purple and sparkly, so I happily complied. Let's get to some pictures! She was a lot of fun to work on, the shell was an interesting challenge to get done. Painting eyelashes was tricky because of the way her eyes are sculpted underneath. Either way, she's a cutie! I will end this post with a full body picture of her. I couldn't get her wig to sit on her head right, so I finally just gave up and took bald pictures instead.
Have a good one! My Doll Chateau Snow Nymph took a tumble the other week and face planted onto her glasses, scratching through her sealant and into her resin. It was an accident so I wasn't mad, but I was sad she got damaged. Either way, I wanted to get through some commissions first before I tried to fix her. Fortunately the scratches weren't deep and I was able to heat them out and then wet sand the rest of the forehead to even out everything again. Then I repainted her and I personally think she's even cuter than before! I'm much happier with her blushing and lips this time around. I still need to take some better pictures of her in daylight time. Just the quick comparison of her old face up to her new one. I feel like I over-blushed the bridge of her nose a little, but it's not too bad. I definitely like how her lips turned out this time.
That's all from me for now! This weekend was a little less productive than last, but I still got some things done and a WIP to show! I finished up the third part of a three part commission, the Paper & Sakura Kazarai cat in black resin. She was a bit of a challenge to work on as my pastels were fighting me on showing up on her, so I mostly stuck to paint, but even that was fighting me. In the end I am pleased with the outcome though! Here are the pictures of the Kazarai. She and the other two heads are on their way home now! I can't wait to see some owner pictures of the lot! Now I also have a WIP, a long time one. I'm almost done with the Doll Chateau Jakov finally. Just a couple more layers of pastels along the body and he's ready to go home too. The weather hasn't been favorable these last two days, but I am determined to get things done!
Now for the FYI: I decided to add an FAQ section to my site. I'll still expand on it as I go along, but I've been debating putting one up for a while. I also put in a little blurb about myself too, just to put a face to the name. If you have any other questions you think I could answer on here, whether basic BJD related or something about me, feel free to comment or send me a note through my contact page! That's all for now, until next time! I wasn't quite as productive as I'd hoped, but I did get one face up done today, one I've been sitting on a while. The Doll Chateau Jakov finally got his face up, now I just need to do his body too. His face up is heavily inspired by David Bowie and is a tribute doll to the late artist. It's an interesting style to work in. Otherwise I have a lot of free reign with the body work, just the face up had a theme.
I'm slowly working on the rest of the commissions as well. I may need to take on less for a while while I get my health sorted out. My chronic migraines have been getting a lot worse. Either way, hopefully tomorrow I'll have more to show! I finally managed to finish up the Doll Chateau Beatrice. She turned out super cute and pretty in my opinion, and the owner loves the work as well. I've gotten through a good chunk of my commissions at this point, which is good, because I'll be heading off to Austria on December 20th until January 2nd (though we'll probably arrive closer to January 3rd as we're landing shortly before midnight...). Anyway, onto some picture! I'm very happy with the end result. She's such a finicky little thing to get to stand as she doesn't have ankle joints. The S-hooks are in the knees and elbows, so her posing is a bit limited. Now for the FYI.
I'll be raising my prices in January. I'll also be charging extra for fantasy face ups depending on how long the work is going to take. I'll still have a flat base price for basic face ups/body blushes, but if you need anything added like scars or tattoos the price will reflect that. Freckles are included in the basic face up price. The reason behind that is because it can take me many more hours to get a fantasy face up done, sometimes it'll take 6 times as long as a basic face up. In the end it doesn't even cover the cost of materials what I charge. Those who I've already quoted a price don't need to worry as I will not be changing my already existing estimates. I hope everyone had a grand Halloween yesterday that celebrates it, and a wonderful Samhain to those that celebrate that. I face upped yesterday morning and got a few things done. I finished up the Plantedoll Mini Tara, repainted the horns from the Soom MD Thera, and started on the Doll Chateau Beatrice. I feel accomplished! Otherwise I watched Hocus Pocus like I do every year on Halloween. Here we have the detail shots of the Planetdoll Mini Tara. Her head is really really tiny, like a 3/4 or 4/5 size. It's always hard getting my brush strokes fine enough for that size, but I think I did well. Then I also have a WIP shot of the Doll Chateau Beatrice who is getting painted like an Orchid Mantis. I got her body too, but I haven't had the chance to start on it yet as I want the face up done first.
Either way, it was a fun and productive Halloween for me! Have a good one! |
