Yesterday was a good day for commissions, I finished up 3 heads in one sitting! Today it's raining and my back up place for face upping is not a viable option, so expect me to resume working on commissions next week like around Tuesday or Wednesday if all goes well! Anyway, the heads I worked on was a pair of Dollshe Ausley heads (OE and SA), and a Fairyland LTF Juri 2014. First up the Ausley heads. The doll is a high fashion model and I was asked to make her sleeping face look like it's without make up. I just stuck random eyes in her I had to make the OE head look a little more lively. I chose a different style of eyelashes for the sleeping head to make it look like she's not wearing mascara. And then here's the Fairyland LTF Juri 2014 with her cute little kissy face. She turned out adorable I must say. I may need to rework her lips to make them more pink, but I'm waiting to hear from the customer first.
Also these face ups bring me up to 198 total. That means that just one more and I'll redo Zephyra as my 200th!

I finally got to see in person a Fairyland LTF Juri 2013, which I have always adored since it came out 2 years ago. For a while I was even debating changing out my Chiwoo Elf Girl's face for that one, but I never did. I don't regret it, but I still wished I had that face plate, though I'd never get it a body. I prefer SDs to YoSDs despite having 4 YoSD's (compared to 6 SD with one more on the way). Anyway, let me show you some pictures! So here are the detail shots of the cutie. I wish I had better lighting in my little work spot, or a second light to the right of me. I have a natural-light bulb in my desk lamp to keep the colors true while I work.
This weekend I will be attacking more of my commissions as I have a lot right now. But I'm excited to work on all of them. A few need to be restrung, which I don't mind doing. I just bought extra elastic fortunately. Also, I am so close to reaching 200 face ups. This one is my 195th, so 4 more and I'll redo Zephyra as my 200th. She was my first and 100th face up, so it's only fitting I repaint her as my 200th. I basically redo her every 100 face ups to see how much my skills have improved in that time frame. I'm betting it's a lot! My SO asked me to repaint her Fairyland LTF Dark Elf Soo faceplates as she wasn't bonding with her anymore with her old design. She's refreshing her into a Kiki styled doll based off of Kiki's Delivery Service. I also started chipping away at more commissions again, so that's good. It's been raining all of yesterday and today so things are slowing down a bit again for my work speed. I'm sorry about that... Anyway, here are the two faceplates I worked on on Friday. Gluing eyelashes onto the sleeping plate was a pain in the bum!
I was a busy bee this weekend and did 3 face ups in 2 days! Not the most I've ever managed, but still a good chunk. I redid the Impldoll Tony because the face up didn't fully suit the character, so I didn't mind the redo. Then I also finally got around to painting the Fairyland PukiFee Halloween Event faceplate, but I wasn't able to document her other than a few iPad pictures because I forgot my camera. And last but not least I worked on a Migidoll Jean, who turned out lovely as well. Enough blathering and onto some pictures! Look at how handsome the Impldoll Tony is now, his eyebrows and lashes match his wig much much better now. Also I'll forever struggle at positioning silicone eyes. End of story. And here we have a Migidoll Jean in NS-A, and she's quite lovely. I had fun working on her, she has very good resin. All the pastels blended very nicely. Again, the plight of positioning silicone eyes struck me. And then last, but not least, is the little Fairyland PukiFee Halloween event faceplate. This is only my second sugar skull face up, and it looks much much better than my first. I'll need to document her better at the next meet!
I decided randomly yesterday to redo my Fairyland LTF Chiwoo Elf Girl's face up yesterday and while doing so I also painted her sleeping plate at the same time. She turned out pretty cute, though her eyelashes on the sleeping plate where a nightmare to apply. Don't get me wrong, I really like them, but she was fighting me bitterly on them. She also said no to freckles this time. I tried, but they didn't look good so I just wiped them all off again. Anyway, onto the detail shots! Isn't she cute? The orchid over the eye turned out a lot darker than anticipated, but it's still pretty at least. Over all I'm happy with the face up. My neck hurt after the many hours it took to get the face ups done, but it was totally worth it.
Now that it's March I'm open for commissions again! I've already knocked out two heads for commission. I also redid my Mystic Kids Miri (again), but she looks better than ever! But first I'll show my commissions. First up is a Sweet Dolls Aiden in normal pink skin. The head is technically a boy one, but the owner has it on a girl body, so girly face up it is! She also is a redhead and I was asked to put freckles on her, so I did. She turned out pretty cute. Next up is a Fairyland MNF Ante in tan skin. Fairyland tan is to die for, it's such a pretty color! The eyebrows are a dark grey because her wig is silver. She keeps going wonky eyed on me, so I'll need to fix that, again. And then last, but certainly not least, is my own Mystic Kids Miri in normal pink skin. I've been wanting to do a galaxy themed face up for ages. I'm really happy with how she turned out. Her last face up was just too plain and disgruntled looking. I'm not sure whether I'll keep her name (Jolene) or change it. So far I still call her Jolene, but I'm not sure if it's "fancy" enough for a fallen star. Either way I'm super pleased with her face up now. Now to de-yellow the Dollshe Saint I got hanging out so I can paint him too. And of course the PukiFee faceplate needs to be painted as well.
I finally got around to redoing my Fairyland LTF Dark Elf Soo's face up in tan now that I'm taking a break to work on personal projects. Her old face up has bothered me just about since I put it on her, but I kept getting so many commissions that I didn't have time to redo hers. I still have a few more to reface up, but they will be dispersed throughout the week. If I feel up to it I might even do one tomorrow! Anyway, onto some pictures! I really love how her eyes came out. It took me roughly 20 minutes and about 5 tries to get the eyelashes to a point I liked them and NOT go too far on them. I kept overworking them badly... Either way I kept working on them and now she's quite dramatic, perfect for a pirate princess since her mother, my DZ Stramonium, is the pirate queen. Here's also a before and after picture of her two face ups. When I got her originally last summer she had a fairyland default face up, but I wiped it before I even took pictures of it. They had put so much silver shimmer on it that she looked like she was sweating. Just didn't work on the tan skin. I keep forgetting to put shimmer on Bonnie, maybe later I'll give her a layer of gold shimmer just to make her shine. Here's a picture of her all put together! She's such a cutie. Now I want to redo my DZ Stramonium to match.
I managed to finish the last of the commissions I had and shipped everything out today. I feel accomplished! As for the FYI, I'm closing commissions until March. I'm going to take a break and work on some personal projects since my poor dolls have been neglected with old face ups that I could do so much better now! Anyway, onto the work from this week! First up is a Fairyland LTF Rolly VE faceplate from a friend of mine. She wanted me to paint her as a little goth girl, which I was happy to do. I think it turned out very nice. And then here we have the legs of my SO's Soom Ai girl. She's a red dear so red hooves it is. I was surprised at how few layers that took to build up. I only used about two layers of color to build up the red and another two for the hooves.
I'm posting the detail shots a couple days late, but these are the good shots of the last two face ups I did of January 2015. Things have been rather hectic and stressful at work so I'm often very tired by the time I come home. Either way, on to the detail shots! Here we have the LumeDoll Blaze in tan. Honestly the tan looks more like a normal skin but that's okay. He is very tiny. And up second we have the Fairyland Chicline Rou in normal skin. He was described to me as bit of a Diva. Putting snakebites on something this tiny was an entertaining challenge. He barely even fought me on his eyelashes, which I always appreciate. He's also very tiny. Quarter for scale!
This "weekend" I worked on the tiny heads on my to do list. One is the final redo I did on the LumeDoll Blaze. The other is a Fairyland Chicline Rou. I'll be taking and posting better detail shots soon! Here's the LumeDoll Blaze in tan skin first. He looks a lot less startled than last time. I enjoyed repainting him honestly. I feel like I improved in 11 face ups since the last time I painted him! Now this guy is a Fairyland Chicline Rou in normal skin. His owner described him to me as a bit of a Diva and wanted me to paint him in a gothic style and provided me with a few examples. The lips do have more red in them and I'll take some better pictures of him soon. His head is about as tiny as the LumeDoll above!
I was finally able to finish 2 multi-part commissions yesterday. I feel super accomplished with getting them finally done. I didn't manage to document them while it was still light out and my good camera is still fighting me, but I'm pleased with the outcome. First up is the really big commission, the Magical Angel Kelly girl who had the whole spa treatment. She got a face up, premium eyelashes, a body blush, manicure, and a pedicure. I'm really proud of the hands. I've hardly done manicures even if I do offer them as a service. I've also moved away from watercolor pencils and am now using watercolor paints out of the tube. I don't have the greatest brand (Koi) but it's been working well so far. Next up is a little Fairyland PukiPuki Flora in white skin as well. She just got a clean up and a face up. She got a natural face up, which was pretty easy to do on such a tiny head. She's about the size of a quarter!
The last part, the Dollzone Dale, I will post later once I get her body documented as well. She got a face up and body blush. I also received another two part commission in the mail yesterday, a Souldoll Vito Lester and a Lumedoll Blaze, who is miniscule. His head is a 3-4 wig size and his eyes are so tiny I hope I don't drop them! Either way, I'll update soon again! I finally got around to documenting the face ups I completed the other day. It took a while but it is done! First up is the Doll Love WenWen. She's really a cutie! She's going to have pink hair, hence the pink eyebrows. Next up is a Fairyland MNF Mirwen. I've always wanted to see one in person and she really is a pretty sculpt. Usually face up artists either make her angry or sad looking, but my customer didn't want either. I feel she actually looks like she's smiling, so that's good. And last but certainly not least are the two Fairyland PukiFee faceplates. The first is a Mio and the second is a New Family event faceplate.
All the Fairyland face ups were for one person. Now I just need to get all the heads back to their proper owners. Next up is the Magical Angel Kelly (girl). I'm going to have a lot of fun with her. She'll have a face up, body blush, and a mani and pedi. I managed to finish up the Tumblr free face up raffle winner's head yesterday already, but my camera was all out of power and I couldn't find the charger until today (it was so obvious that I felt stupid when I found it). He turned out rather lovely if you ask me! He's a dragon, so I was asked to paint gold and silver scales on him, along with a goatee. I had a lot of fun even if it took forever to build up the colors on the grey/silver scales. I also have 4 more heads to work on that I am starting today. They've been cleaned and sealed so all that's left now is the painting. They are in order a Doll Love WenWen, Fairyland MNF Mirwen, Pukifee Mio, and Pukifee NF. The WenWen and Mirwen will be natural while the two Pukifees will be ore fantasy. The tan one is an Impldoll Aldrich.
I finally got around to documenting my latest face up. It's on my own Fairyland LTF DES in tan. She's super cute and the FL tan is actually really nice, I like it a lot. It's so funny to compare her to my fiancee's LTF DES in normal skin. Here is Bonnie, she's Jazz's, my DZ Stramonium, daughter. I'm actually in the middle of modding a white LTF hand to look like bone, so keep your eyes peeled for that too!
Now I just need to buckle down and finish up the rest of my commissions. It's been really hectic with work and trying to find a new job that is less draining. Enough whining now, and back to work with me! I finally got around to repainting my new girl (Angell Studio Dina) and my partner's new girl (Fairyland MNF WooSoo Vampire). Entertainingly enough they both have a similar color scheme. Both are pale with white hair, though my girl has heavy scarring and hers has scales in the face. First up is my new girl in all her scarred glory. I love how subtle she turned out. I wanted to make the scars look old rather than freshly healed. It's been a long time since she earned those scars. Her previous face up was the company default and very sweet, but definitely not my character Elandril. Someone actually asked me to put together a tutorial for doing scars on a BJD. Luckily Elandril does have an important scar on her arm, so I can do it with that. It's so easy to do scars like that too. Next up are the detail shots of the Fairyland MNF WooSoo Vampire girl. This girl is spunky, because she's a rebellious teenager. The white dots on her are scales and perfectly reversible as well because they are just white glue.
