I'm mostly done with this face up at the moment. All that's missing is eye crease lines. Otherwise the owner loves the face up so far.
I've also noticed that it's hard not to give her the creepy doll stare. She's very cute though at least despite her head being massive!
I'm currently working on a Volks Syo, this is the first Volks I've worked on. I was asked to do really thin and dainty eyebrows, so it's a slight challenge since I love prominent eyebrows, but I did succeed. I showed the owner this in progress shot and she loves the face up so far. There isn't much left on it, I got the hard part out of the way, the blushing that is. Now I just need to refine the lips, eyebrows, and eye details like eyeliner and lashes.
Stupidly we have heavy fog up here right now, so I can't work on anything face up wise. Also it's really hot and I'd rather not cause the face up to flake off from the humidity. It's hard sometimes to find the time to face up with working from 9-6 every day, so I've been face upping in the morning when the air is cooler.
A local friend has commissioned me to paint her Volks Syo head, but the weather is absolutely horrible. We've had such thunderstorms the last couple of days that the twin cities look like they got hit by a hurricane, and I'm in Minnesota! Trees are down left and right and everything's flooded. I've been safe in the suburbs luckily, but the power keeps going out.
Either way, I'm expecting an Impldoll Xavier as well sometime next week. Oh! And I bought business cards, they should arrive in 2 weeks about. I might start sending them out with people's commissions. I'm really hoping the weather will be better soon, because with working full time it's hard to get to my college to work in the spray booth.
Oh well, I'll figure something out. I don't want my turn around rate to go any longer than it already is. At work I finally finished the training class, so now I get to nest (go on the phones), so that'll be interesting. I'm looking forward to it.
As the title says, I'm on a roll! I did 3 face ups within a week. I am proud of myself. Today's face up is on a Bobobie/Resinsoul Lan. I was sent two different colored wigs with her so I tried to match her eyebrows to both.
I think I did a pretty good job of it. I also had to trim her eyelashes because her eyes are so tiny and the SD eyelashes were way too long.
You know what the best part is about being a face up artist? Handling so many different dolls! What I mean with that is that it's really fun to get to see so many different sculpts from various companies. I've worked on some companies I didn't even know existed, so I'm getting educated along the way.
Also, I'm not out of commissions to do, so if you or a friend need a face up, don't hesitate to send me a contact form! I'm always open for more commissions.
Finished up that Puki Puki from the previous entry this morning. I'm rather happy with the end result. I just need to get her approved, my services paid, and then I'll ship her back home.
As you can see, the head isn't much bigger than a quarter. Click on the image for a bigger view. I also have a before and after image below.
I managed to work a little on a face up this morning, a Fairyland PukiPuki Piki. She's super cute. I couldn't finish her before having to run to work.
I don't have much left on her, mostly doing eyelashes and gloss. That's all that's really left on this face up. I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow morning if the weather's nice.
I got to do scars again in a face up. They're really fun to do, even if they take forever solely because the glue has to fully dry before you can work on anything else. I worked on an OnlyDoll YiFeng. I was also instructed to give him thick and sculpted eyebrows, which is one of my favorite things to do. I love doing eyebrows, especially prominent ones!
Once the invoice gets paid since he's been approved I will have him mailed back home. I can't wait to see him with eyes and wig!
My new boy (Impldoll Aldrich) arrived two days ago and he is so perfect it's not even funny! I had gotten some secondhand Soom Chrom legs to hybrid onto him and I was worried I'd have to mod him to fit them. As luck would have it, they are a perfect fit. He stands with little fidgeting and looks great for my character. Yesterday I gave him a face up while waiting for some glue to dry on a commission head.
Here he is! His tan was an interesting challenge to blush. Who knew dark peach would work great for subtle blushing? I certainly didn't! I was going for reddish browns originally, but then I tried the peach tone and it worked great. I still used the browns too though for the eyes and such. He's my only boy with eyelashes.
This week I face up-ed one of my own dolls, a Dollzone Miss Kitty. She was being a butt with her eyebrows, it took 5 tries to get them right.
She is my 70th face up to date. I'm getting much closer to my goal of 100 completed face ups this year. I have two more commissions incoming this week.
I'm also changing jobs. I just got hired into an office setting where I'll be working full time at 5 days a week. For the next three weeks I can only ship on Saturdays because I'm in training Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm.
Here she is put together. Once I refine the blushing on her ears I will document those too. I want to get her a DC Kid girl body because her head is so huge and I think she'd be beautiful on one. All in due time.
