It's no secret that I wrote a book on face ups end of last year and published it for sale this January. What's a shame though is that I never made a section for it here, on my face up website. Tsk tsk me. The title of it is Face Up Handbook.
Either way, I did make a section for it this morning with links both to Amazon, and Lulu (where it's slightly cheaper to get). It has a beautiful foreword by Elizabeth Sloan (a.k.a. zirconmermaid) and is 68 pages of BJD painting goodness. The first half of the book covers everything from materials, protection yourself, color theory, to preparing the doll for painting. I spent a lot of time on it, and I'd appreciate it greatly if you would check it out.
Link to it is here.
Also, there will be a new face up on the way. A friend of mine dropped off one of her dolls (a Soom Eliv) with me last night, so she'll be getting the beauty treatment soon.
Finished up another commission for a friend of mine, her little Resinsoul Yu. She's waiting on her wig now, and eventually her proper eyes. She's a little seeing eye fairy.
Her default RS face up gave her no justice, she is so much cuter with a custom one and I'm thrilled I got to be the one to work on her! She's also puny, but not as tiny as a pukipuki, which is what I get to work on next.
Just finished up a new commission and got him approved this morning. He is a Dollzone Megi, and a real cute one at that! He has a facial tattoo under his steampunk eye. I really enjoyed working on him!
I blushed my reject pair today. I'm quite happy with the outcome! I wanted them to match my LTF elf chiwoo named Diuris for the orchid on her face. I pretty much used the same colors as for her flower for her wings.
Here you can see a side view to show Diruis's face. She's a little demon flower fairy, or something. Mainly she likes being pretty.
There we go! I cleaned up all three pairs now that I've cast. One I'm never selling/giving away because it was the first one and has stunted talons. The other two I might be willing to part with, but not yet. I first want to paint them all pretty!
Here you can see that I stuck them on three different sized dolls for size comparisons. I originally intended them for YoSDs, but they work great on MSD too. A little small on the SD though. I should be able to paint them on Thursday if the weather permits. I know it won't tomorrow, too humid and gross, unless I go to college and do it there. Hmm...
Today was very successful! The molds worked great and I now have three pairs of RESIN wings! Now I just need to sand them and clean them up, and they're good to go!
They are also really light weight. I can't wait to try them out on my LTF to see how they fit!
I'm so happy with them! Thank you so much Zirconmermaid and Gerald! You two are the best!
Last weekend I finished pouring the silicone molds for my wings, and today I'm going to pour my first resin! I'm so excited! If all goes well and I didn't mess up the molds, I will have a pair of resin wings by the end of today/early tomorrow.
Also I'm thinking of working on Mort today (my Dragondoll Cheng). I started doing scars on him but I'm not sure yet if I like to look of them on his body...
I finally finished working on my girlfriend's doll. She got her hooves blushed yesterday, completing her look! I must say, she looks absolutely great!
Onto the pictures!
She is the most hybrided doll in the household. She's a Fairyland LTF Dark Elf Soo with Daisy Dayes hooves, a Soom Beyla tail, Leekeworld small goral horns and Fairyland wings. That makes 4 companies that she's made of. Once my wings get cast (which should be this weekend) she might become 5 companies!
I've been hard at work with my wings that I sculpted, and I am currently making silicone molds for them. I've been learning under Zirconmermaid's husband Gerald on how to mix and pour silicone. The wings are going to be made through two part molds, and I've poured a half of each wing mold. Today, if there's time, I'm going to pour the second half of each mold.
Once all that sets it'll be time to cast them in resin. Probably next week! I'm so excited!!!
