With no commissions to paint currently, I've been slowly evaluating which ones of my dolls need a refresher. This weekend Val, my Dollzone Chen in normal yellow skin, got an updated look. His head matches his body better too now! Without further ado, onto some pictures! So here's my handsome man. I wanted to mute his colors a bit to look more sickly I suppose? He's a vampire after all and shouldn't look as lively as he was. The part I'm most proud of in this face up are the eyebrows. I spent a long time on shaping and painting them! Here's the quick comparison of his old to new look. This is literally the 5th face up I've done on him, and I think I finally gave him eyelashes successfully. Though he did fight me on gluing them in place. I will end this post with the above comparison of all the face ups he's had so far.
Until next time!

Once again, I've been a busy busy bee with face up work. I've just about finished everything I have on me, other than the DF-A BoBo and the Little Rebel Andre as the owner is waiting on his body to see if he needs a color match in the face! Things I painted the past few days are: Notdoll Ligaya, Mystic Kids Evelyn, Fairyland PukiPuki Mary, and again my Dollzone Daomiao-2 because she chipped her face up due to my rough handling of her. Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up is the Notdoll Ligaya in crystal rose skin rocking a goth look with dark blue lips. This gal's head is massive, and requires at least 18-20mm eyes. I didn't have anything in those sizes (other than some demon eyes in 18mm), so she got some grey 16mm eyes put in. It's rare that I get to do gothic face ups, I mostly get to do natural or fantasy. Despite that, I still enjoy doing darker face ups too! Then next up is another goth beauty, this time a Mystic Kids Evelyn in normal pink skin. She was tough to get clean because I swear her old eyelashes had been superglued in place. I could not get them off, not even with isopropyl alcohol! I finally had to scrape them off with a pin and rip them out with tweezers. Good thing they were already heavily damaged so I didn't feel bad ripping them further apart. This little thing is a Fairyland PukiPuki Mary in natural skin. I was given free reign with her, so she got a fantasy face up! Glittery blue make up, but otherwise naturally blushed. I need to secure her wig better too. She belongs to the same client as the Mystic Kids Evelyn. Last, but not least, is the redo face up on my Dollzone Daomiao-2 in normal pink skin. I'm actually much more satisfied with this face up than the last one. Just kind of annoying that I had to repaint her so quickly... Either way, she's a cute little thing, being the tallest of my YoSDs.
I'm still open for commissions as most that I've done these last two weeks are already back with their owners! I still need to restring the Mystic Kids Evelyn, but then she and the PukiPuki are ready to return home to their owner. I am expecting one more commission from the USA, which'll be a fun one to work on! I was a busy bee this past weekend, finishing up 2 more face ups, and a fantasy parts blush on some wings I'd made myself and sold to a client. The face ups are on a Souldoll Vito Sean and my own Dollzone Daomiao-2. Sadly my lightbox decided to croak today and can't be used anymore without short circuiting whatever it is plugged into. It shut down my laptop twice until I realized what was going on... Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up are the wings I painted as sparkly as I could without using actual glitter on them. First I blushed them purple/violet with pastels, then coated them in 3 layers of Macropearl Shimmer from PearlEx, and finally sealed it with MSC Gloss to keep maximum shine/sparkle. I didn't install the magnets so that the client can choose which polarity to glue them in at. I did include the magnets however! Next up we have a Souldoll Vito Sean in normal skin. He'd had a custom face up from Souldoll, but the client wasn't happy with the facial hair. I offered my services to repaint him as I've successfully done facial hair in the past. The client also wanted the eye make up like in the default face up, and for him to have a light smirk. I'm quite pleased with the outcome though, and I hope the client will like the work in person too! A lot of hours went into that beard. Last, but not least, we have my Dollzone Daomiao-2 in normal pink skin. I'm not entirely satisfied with her eyebrows or eyelashes, but for now this face up is going to stay on her. I do want to get her lighter eyes. These were the only spare ones I had in her size, or close to it at least. I even tried out giving her eyelid crease lines, which I normally never do as I usually don't like the look of them. But I needed to pop her eyes a bit more.
I still have 3 things to paint, but one I'm waiting on until his body arrives to the owner. They are local to me, so we can huddle together to make sure the colors match, and if not, make them match! That's all from me for now, until next time! Since I'm still waiting on some commissions to trickle in, I decided to paint my Dollzone April (the new elf version). Originally I meant for her to be natural, with maybe some light make up, but she said no. So swirls happened. Today is just a short post, no novel post this time as I only got one face up to show! Without further ado, onto some pictures! So here she is. I did my best to match the swirls on both sides of her head. I feel I over blushed a little, but it just makes her look super wintery. I also didn't realize she has slight sculpted teeth! They aren't defined, but she definitely has a sculpted line for them between her lips.
I need to find her some better eyes I think, maybe some startling light blue or amber ones. I'm still deciding of course. The eyes Dollzone sent with were (as always) too big, and I didn't have any other eyes that suited her in my jar of eyeballs... That is all from me for now, until next time! I hope all the USA peeps had a great Thanksgiving and Black Friday! I was a busy bee and painted the dyed Dollzone Scorpio. I've taken a few days off from work to spend time with my mom and stepdad as they flew in on Tuesday! It's been fun, but boy am I beat from all the sightseeing we've been doing! Anyway, onto some pictures of the Scorpio! I did not do the dyeing this time (hence why it doesn't look terrible!), but MisMantis did it before she sent it to me to paint for the client. The concept is based on Sedona rock formations with succulents all along the back.
It was an interesting challenge to paint as the Scorpio is dyed dark tan. No matter what I tried, the orange pastels simply didn't want to show up after sealing, so I went darker instead. The succulent rosettes were fun to do, and I covered everything with interference green shimmer powder, so she sparkles nicely! Now for the FYI: I'm re-opening commissions for limited slots! I have one new commission on me so far, but I have room for more! With my work schedule I can't take on as much as I used to and keep a reasonable turn around time... So for commissions, no more than 2 parts per slot, like 2 heads, or a head and a body, etc. I'm hoping I can keep on top of them better this time! I haven't been officially open for commissions in so long, but I crave fresh ideas to realize! Oh! Another thing to mention, I was sent some owner pictures! Be sure to hop into the Owner Gallery to see! I absolutely love owner pictures, and am sad at how few I get... (hint hint send me owner pictures). That's all from me for now, until next time! Last weekend I was a busy bee, but not this one. This weekend I've been laid low with a throat infection. At least I have some work to show from the last weekend! I dyed, face upped, made some eyes, and strung an Eve Studios Pet British Cat New in the 6cm size, painted my wife's anniversary gifts (Dollzone Snow twins), and painted a Kids Sky Gold, who I need to work back into and see if I can change the eyeliner from black to a nice warm brown. Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up we have the Eve Studios Pet British Cat New in the 6cm size at the withers. This one was a commission from a friend, who was incredibly patient with me getting their kitty done. I had to dye the pieces from stark white to a Russian blue and I hand painted the eye blanks and domed them with gloss. The eyes aren't as pale as I hoped they'd be, but I'm still happy with how they turned out. Stringing the cat was a nightmare. It took me 3 tries as I couldn't find my small elastic and had to use the elastic provided by the company, which in all honesty is far too weak... Then here we have my wife's Dollzone Snow twins in normal pink skin. They arrived about two weeks ago, and are an anniversary gift from me to my wife. She already had one floating body, so I just had to get one whole doll, and a second head. Their stuff other than their wigs hasn't arrived yet, so they aren't ready to be shown to the world yet. Soon I hope!
I'm not going to post pictures of the Kids Sky Gold head as I need to work back into him and haven't taken anything other than pictures with my cell phone so far. I gotta take off the eyelashes and redo the eyeliner. I'm hopeful I can just paint over it and down't have to redo the whole face up... That's all from me for now, until next time! Since I'm still waiting on my next commissions to come in, I decided to repaint a head I modded ages ago for my wife. The head is a Dollzone April, who I modded from open-eyed to dreaming. It was my first eye mod ever, so it's not perfect, but it looks good enough! Without further ado, onto some pictures! My wife has always wanted me to match her face up to the default on her normal Dollzone April. I had to try and color match, which let me tell you is difficult without an airbrush, to cover the mods. She turned out a little dark, but it's hard to tell in pictures. I'm already plotting how I'd redo this face up down the line. Here you can see the original face up I slapped on her on the left. It was very pretty, but not quite what my wife wanted. It only took me 3-4 years to redo the head. It was low priority since my wife rarely plays with her dolls anymore, but I was itching to paint something, so she was grabbed out of the parts drawer, haha! I will end this post with a comparison picture of the two Dollzone April heads. On the left is the modded one, on the right is the un-modded one with default face up that I added freckles to.
Until next time! ![]() Since I currently have nothing to work on commission wise, I decided to whip up a natural girl face up tutorial for the site There be Dolls. It shows my method of working, and isn't the only method. I meant it as more of a starting point for people to do their own natural face ups. I'll later probably do a tutorial on how to apply eyelashes to dolls as it seems to me a lot of people struggle with it. I've made one in the past for DoA, but I wanted to do it again with new pictures. Either way, please go on and check out this tutorial! I might even finally continue on my face up guide book. I really need to finish that poor thing... It's not like I don't have time now! Also, I'm still open for commission! Please don't hesitate to send me a message on my contact page! I'm happy to work on all legit dolls.
That's all from me for now. Until next time! Since I have nothing to work on currently, I decided to paint one of my spare heads, a Dollzone Minas in normal skin pink. I've had this head in a drawer since 2016 and never bothered to do anything with it. I decided to give her a nice natural face up to list her for sale. A close friend of mine already snatched her up! Without further ado, onto some pictures! I'm really happy with how the face up turned out, and I tried out some of the lashes I got ages ago. They are huge, probably too big for any sculpt with eye sizes below 18mm! Minas takes 16mm eyes and they are gigantic on her, but not terribly so. I love how her lips came out. In the Dollzone promo pictures she has really dark red painted lips. It's pretty, but I feel it overpowers the sculpt a bit.
Now for the news! I wanted to give a shout out to legit BJD interview blog called There Be Dolls! It has artist interviews, tutorials, and you can sign up as a member and send comments to others on there. It's run by a local collector here, and I can't wait to read the next interviews! That's all from me for now, until next time! Sorry for the month long silence you guys, I haven't forgotten to work on commissions! I did get a bunch of them done, but not all of them are documented yet. I will post the two that I do have documentation for though! I worked on a Fairylanf RealFee Sira (not documented yet), a Dollzone Eudora, and Volks DDH-04. I'm also open for commissions, though I already have a bunch again! I'm expecting two more commissions within this week. Anyway, onto some pictures! First up is the Dollzone Eudora in white skin. What an odd, but cute little creature she is. The client asked for blue and purple tiger stripes along her head and body. She was a lot of fun to work on! Then here we have the Volks DDH-04 head in normal skin. She had a face up when she arrived to me, but it came off easily enough. This is only my third time doing an anime style face up. I'm proud of it even if I still have a lot to learn with them! She's meant to look like Yuzuki from Chobits.
Either way, I have one more Volks Dollfie Dream head to paint for that client, and then I'll be tackling the Luts dolls I get to work on. Until next time! |
