Whew! I finally finished up the body work on two of my commissions, one was a Resinsoul Yao body (but just the hooves), and the other was a Soom MD Thera body. The Soom Thera got her torso blushed, a manicure, hoof blushing, a face up, and her horns were painted. I need to redo her horns though as the gloss peeled a little due to handling too early. Anyway, onto some pictures! Here are the hooves on the Resinsoul Yao body in the light/coffee tan that Resinsoul/Bobobie offers. I matched them to the colors I used in the face up. Then here we have all the body work done on the Soom MD Thera in the original cream white. I'll have to repaint the horns because the gloss peeled off a little due to handling them too soon after drying.
Otherwise she's done! Now to work on the rest of my commissions once the weather permits!

I got a good start on the Soom MD Thera and finished up her face up so far. I'm also still working on the fantasy parts blush for the Resinsoul Yao body. I just have a few more layers of color on that one. Anyway, the Soom Thera I was asked to give her a fantasy face up, and I'll blush her horns, hooves, body, and give her a manicure as well. I did also restring her with new elastic as the old one was worn out. I'm really happy with the symmetry of the fantasy designs and the blushing of the face. I've gotten much better at blushing white skin dolls.
Due to working two jobs and doing face ups as well, there's going to be some delays in getting the rest of my commissions taken care of. I'm very sorry for this! I usually just do part time hours at my morning job, but I worked full time shifts several times this week, and the days I didn't I was working at my afternoon job. That one I work at less frequently, maybe 2-3 times a week. I also work Saturday this week, giving me a 6 day work week. Next week I have to work both jobs every week day. Oof... that'll be rough. Anyway, I did manage to get one more face up done this week in the morning. It was a simple one so it went quick. I worked on a Soom FCE Thera in bronze skin. I just love the Soom bronze resin tone, it's such a lovely and rich color. I was asked to put white freckles on her, which proved to be tricky and took 2 tries, but in the end it worked out. I'm also really proud of her eyebrows!
This also marks my 199th face up, which means that now I'll have to redo Zephyra, my first resin doll, to mark the occasion of 200 face ups! She was my first and 100th, so it's only fitting she becomes my 200th one as well. Thank you for being so patient with me getting new work done slowly. You guys are really the best! I did another face up today, this one for my SO on her Soom MD Wolf Knight Romantic (human) head in normal skin. His wig just arrived yesterday that I bought him for his character and my SO finally decided to have me redo him when the grey Soom default face up just didn't work with it. I'm finally getting the hang of mixing blonde colors for eyelashes and eyebrow hairs, I've always had difficulties with that when I switching from using pencils to paint. I'm quite pleased with the end result of him. Here's his before and after picture as well. The default Soom face up was nicely detailed, but waaay too bland on colors. The grey lips would have been fine on a white skin head, but not on a normal skin one. Bonus picture of his (unstyled) wig. It's going to need some brushing and careful styling to lay properly, but at least it fits. A friend of ours has him too, and she's been having an awful time finding him a wig that fits and she likes.
My SO's boy is finally going to get a body in about 2 months (it's on layaway and still being made). I can't wait to see him put together! I managed to finish the last of the commissions I had and shipped everything out today. I feel accomplished! As for the FYI, I'm closing commissions until March. I'm going to take a break and work on some personal projects since my poor dolls have been neglected with old face ups that I could do so much better now! Anyway, onto the work from this week! First up is a Fairyland LTF Rolly VE faceplate from a friend of mine. She wanted me to paint her as a little goth girl, which I was happy to do. I think it turned out very nice. And then here we have the legs of my SO's Soom Ai girl. She's a red dear so red hooves it is. I was surprised at how few layers that took to build up. I only used about two layers of color to build up the red and another two for the hooves.
Yesterday was a busy day for my face up wise, and it was great! I finished 2 heads, a pair of hands, and a bust piece. Here's all the work I completed. From left to right we have a Dollshe Love bust piece and hands, a Soom SO Shale Death Knight head, and a Soom MD Shale human head. I have now done 10 face ups on various Soom Shale heads. Kind of crazy, isn't it? But anyway, onto the detail shots of everything! First up is the Soom MD Shale human head. I just stuck random eyes in him so he wouldn't look creepy. I used a different lash style to try and imitate Soom face ups. I still need to check if the customer wants attached eyelashes or not. Second is the other Soom Shale head, but this one is from the Death Knight release and in their new cream white, which is far more a stark white than a cream one like it used to be. I was asked to put a tribal mark on his face since he's a demon, and this is what I came up with. The owner loves the face up, so that's good! And last, but certainly not least, are the parts of the Dollshe Love body. I only blushed the hands and the one torso even though she came with 3 busts. The customer only wanted the bust with the most cleavage painted and put on the body, so I did. I love her hands, they are so pretty and delicate!
Out of all the heads I had for painting I only managed to complete 2 this weekend. The reason is that when I tried to go on Monday to my old college to use the facilities it was closed due to the holiday. It was kind of frustrating driving all the way up there just to have to turn around and go back home. Also work was hellish this last week, so here's to hoping this week is better! Anyway, onto the new face ups. One is a brand new one, the other is a redo because due to my own stupidity of spraying outside while it was humid the face up started flaking off... I have one more redo which I'll tackle this week along with everything else I got to do. First up is my SO's Soom MD R. Rico head that's been blank since around Christmas time. Since it was her birthday yesterday I painted her for her. I finally also figured out how to color blonde eyebrows/lashes. Painting all of those scales took forever because I ran out of paint after 4 scales so I kept having to re-dip my brush. I might still work into her later again because her wig covers all the scales. Then here we have the redo face up, I have one more to do and then I can send him and his friend back to their owner. This one is the same Souldoll Vito Lester I worked on last time as well. I actually like his eyebrows a lot better this time around. Now here's to hoping the owner agrees!
Since posting the preview pictures I've actually completed another face up on a Soom MD Ai. She's my christmas gift to my SO. Anyway, onto all the detail shots! First up is the Souldoll Vito Lester in normal skin. I was asked to put a rather morose expression on his face and light freckles along his nose and cheeks. He turned out rather swell. Next up is the LumeDoll Blaze in tan skin. He is teeny tiny and got the tiniest of goatees on his face. I had a lot of fun with him but putting his eyes in was a nightmare. They're teeny tiny. Last, but certainly not least, is the Soom MD Ai. She's an original release one too. She was super floppy, so I restrung her while waiting for the final layer of MSC to dry. She's my Christmas gift for my SO. It's okay to post her though, because she hardly ever comes on my website anyway!
I have two more heads to work on, and then two more arriving this week. I should be good until I leave on the 21st to go to Florida to spend Christmas with my SO and her family. It'll be fun! I finally got around to documenting my 140th face up, which was another repaint on my partners Soom MD Shale romantic head. Last time I repainted him he ended up far too pink. This I think is the best face up on him yet! He's meant to be very pale this unicorn boy. He's actually a hybrid on a DC body with the Shale head and full Shale fantasy legs. He's really cool. I have some pictures of his full body on my flickr. I also hit another milestone with this face up. I reached 140 face ups since I started doing them! That means that it's time for another collage, it's been a while since I've posted one. I'm very proud of this accomplishment. I already have another commission with me and one more on the way to me as I type this. It's been frigid here so I haven't been able to work from home much (it's only been in the low 50s and mid 40s in the mornings).
I also have a job interview on Tuesday, so wish me luck! I'm hoping I get it because then I can quit the job I have now and move on to something (hopefully) better. Happy weekend everyone, even if it's only my Wednesday! Since I reside in the USA, I figured I should wish all of my US resident followers a happy independence day! I've been in the US almost 14 years now (August is my US anniversary). My plans for today are doing some cleaning, perhaps another face up, and then going to my best friend's house to celebrate 4th of July like I have for the past several years. Either way, last night I redid my Soom FCE Chrom's face up because he got a new wig. His old one was driving me bonkers, and I was never fully satisfied with his face up either. So now he got the spa treatment. I have a couple more things to paint now, so those will be next! I'm really happy with his ear shading and around the eyes detailing. Last time I did his face up I had to use my old method (drawing straight with WC pencils onto the head) because he kept fighting me. This time I was able to paint the watercolors like I like to do now. His eyebrows are a lot softer and real looking in my opinion, along with his eye lashes. Here's also a picture of his new wig taken early this morning. Those who aren't in the USA, have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!
So far this week I've only done redos rather than brand new face ups. I do still have two commissions on me, which I will tackle today. Since I've had this boy for sale since January about with no reasonable offers on him, I decided to redo his face up since the old one was way too brown. I'm hoping this will increase his chances of being sold... The other face up I did yesterday was on my partner's Soom SO Adamelli Centaur girl. I just did a face up on her a week ago, but it reminded her too much of her Soom MD Shale, so I redid it. The first face up on her looked plain, but those were the directions I was given. The second time I was told to give her freckles and given some reference photos for what she wanted after realizing she looked too much like her other doll. Now to get back to the Impldoll Aldrich again. I was still using my old method with him where I would draw on the eyelashes and eyebrow hairs with the pencil rather than paint them. I need to invest in more watercolors so that I can expand my palette. Either way, he looks a lot better this way. I almost want to keep him, but I don't know who he is or who he could be since the character he shelled has been taken by my Soom FC Chrom.
Oh well, hopefully he'll sell at some point. I've already listed him way below retail price for new and blank. And now for some detail shots. I'm still working on stuff! Today on the worktable I had a Soom MD Shale romantic and open eyed head to work on. The romantic head I've worked on before, but I redid him because his face up got a bit rubbed off on the chin. I also have now done 110 face ups, so you know what that means? Another collage! It's always fun for me to see how I've improved over the course of the last 2.5 years.
Yesterday I decided to finally blush Winter's hooves. It was a bit of a challenge because they are so stained. When I bought them second hand I didn't know they would be so stained because they were covered in about two layers of acrylic paint. I first scrubbed off the first layer, and then I soaked the hooves in rubbing alcohol for 24 hours. That got the rest of the paint off, but they were still rather stained because of how porous the resin is due to the hand cast nature of them. Either way, I decided to challenge myself with the fantasy blush of them, at least a little bit. I originally wanted the hooves darker than the fur, but I got a bit impatient so I simply painted cracks on them. I experimented with my pastels a bit and managed to even splatter them like acrylic paint. Now once I learn how to paint on eyelashes and eyebrow hairs without the watercolor pencils I feel like I'll level up! And here she is before and after. It's amazing what a difference a face up and wig makes. That is literally the same doll, there you can also see her original hoof blush. It looked nice from a distance, but not so much up close.
I was finally able to finish the Soom FCE Shale, just in time too! I still need to restring him and suede his ankles to keep him from chipping all the hard work I put into him. I gave him a face up, blushed all his fantasy parts, a tattoo on his chest, and did a manicure on him. I'm rather happy with how the work turned out. The white in the hooves is just there to protect the hooves from chipping until I put the suede in him. I did put gloss on the hooves and sprayed them down a few times with MSC to dull the shine.
I also worked back into the cat boy from the last commission because the commissioner changed their mind on the eyelashes. Luckily they came off easy and I didn't have to redo much of the face up at all. Good thing too. Just figured I'd show that I'm not dead and still working on things. Things have been super busy with preparing for the holidays (Thanksgiving) so I haven't been able to go and work on dolls. Also my parents moved so many times on my days off I have to go and clear out my stuff from their old house so they can put it on the market. Man did I throw out a lot of old sketchbooks, some dating back to 6th grade. Oh well, it's not like I need them still in my life, I'm just a sentimental sucker. Anyway, onto the face up! Here we have a Soom FCE Shale in normal skin. He's been an interesting challenge to work on so far since I've never blinged out a doll like this. I actually went ahead and bought gold shimmer powder from PearlEX in regular since I only have the interference series currently. His face up isn't done yet since he still needs some small gems under his eyes but I've had a terrible time trying to find some. I need to check through Michaels and see if I can find anything there. The commissioner has told me that it's okay if I can't find them, but I still want to try. I did redo his face up from the ground up once because the owner did not like the eyebrows, but that's okay, at least it didn't take me terribly long to redo the face up.
Currently I'm still missing his tattoo on his chest and hoof blushing. I'm hoping to get to that this week. |
